On June 15, 2026, William "Bill" Gately, beloved husband of the late Nancy Gately (née Geissler), loving father of the late Kevin Gately, and beloved son of the late Thomas and Eleanor Gately, passed away. He is survived by his son, Michael Gately of Towson, Maryland, and five grandchildren: Michael, Bradley, and Matthew Gately of Portage, Michigan, and Brett and Paul Gately of Towson, Maryland.

Bill Gately was a loving husband, proud father, devoted son, brother, cousin, friend, and colleague. Born on June 4, 1941, Bill was the eldest child of Thomas and Eleanor Gately. Growing up in Towson, Maryland, he attended Immaculate Conception School and Loyola High School. He attended Villanova University and received his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif upon graduation.

Some of Bill's happiest memories were of spending summers at the Jersey Shore with his family and, later in life, enjoying his home on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Bill practiced law in Baltimore for more than 35 years and developed many hobbies along the way, including photography, gardening, bird watching, genealogy, kayaking, hunting, and cheering on his sons and grandsons in their sporting activities. His greatest passion, however, was reading.

One of Bill's greatest gifts was his ability to tell a story or a joke. He leaves behind cherished memories, stories, laughter, and friendships that will bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
