Thomas Austin Henning passed away on October 14, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson’s and neurological deterioration as a result of brain trauma.
Tom spent his early childhood years enjoying summers in Deep Creek Lake with his father Austin, and mother Frances. He graduated from City College in 1966 where he was a proud member of the varsity basketball team and marching band. He then went on to graduate from the University of Maryland and the University of Maryland School of Law. He loved his work as a corporate attorney at Maryland National Bank, and Wolpoff & Abramson. During this time, he also served on the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission.
Aside from work, Tom spent the remainder of his time volunteering, worshipping, and serving as the protector and champion of his family. He was the coach for many years of softball, soccer, and basketball teams, and a committed member of school committees. He was a proud attendee at every concert, sporting event, and theatre production that his girls participated in. He was the proud owner of many cats and dogs, and spent years raising puppies for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. He was an avid gardener and volunteered for many years at Ladew Topiary Gardens to stay active and give back. Tom was a Deacon for many years at Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church, and a member of the IronMen Bible study at Grace Fellowship Church, Timonium. He enjoyed playing competitive pickle ball at the Jacksonville Senior Center, where he met great friends and encouraged other members to join. Every summer, Tom loved travelling to Turks and Caicos, while many winters he enjoyed skiing.
Tom spent his final years at Inspirations Memory Care in Lutherville. He shared his gentle and kind demeanor with all of his care takers, who poured their heart into his care and became his family.
Tom was a dear friend and confidant to many. He will be so very missed by his wife Carey Henning, daughters Emily Hughes and Cara Kramarchuk, sons-in-law Patrick Hughes and Mark Kramarchuk, and granddaughters Ella Hughes and Lainey Kramarchuk.
The family will be hosting a joyful celebration of Tom’s life at 11 am, November 7
