Obituary

Terral M. Jordan, beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, died Friday May 16, 2025. He was 79. He was cherished by his family and friends for his sense of humor, multiple careers, extensive travels, love of sports and his beautiful photography.

A 3-time graduate of the University of Virginia, his accomplishments included developing night vision goggles for the US Army; using his MBA in the international agricultural chemical industry; and working for 20 years at investment firm T. Rowe Price. While working as a venture
capitalist at T.Rowe Price, he identified and invested in early-stage companies that became household names such as Starbucks, PetSmart, and Fresh Fields grocery (later acquired by Whole Foods). Additionally, Terral served on multiple boards including the precursor to Johns
Hopkins' Lyme Disease Research Center and briefly as a trustee of the well-known local Quaker retirement center, Broadmead.

Terral was born on August 13, 1945 in Washington, DC to Terral Augustus "Gus" Jordan and Ivor Lee Threatt Jordan. He was the eldest brother to two sisters, Lucinda Lee Jordan (now deceased) and Rita Anne Jordan. When Terral was young, the family often moved between
Mississippi and the DC area until 1954 when Terral's mother passed away. Afterwards the family stayed in the DC suburbs where Terral graduated from McLean (Virginia) high school in 1963.

In 1981, Terral met his wife Lynn (née Rankin) in the Philadelphia area where they bonded over their love of white pizza and Thai food. They married in June 1984 and lived just north of Chicago in Evanston IL where they welcomed their first child: Terral Rankin Jordan
("TR"). In 1987, the family moved to the suburbs of Baltimore MD when Terral joined T. Rowe Price. The next year, they welcomed their second child, Allene McAteer Jordan ("Allie Mac").  During this time, Terral continued to explore his love of sports through running, racquet sports,
and fishing off of North Carolina's Outer Banks.

As a family, they discovered a shared love of the outdoors. Terral led the charge, taking the family camping, hiking and bicycling over the course of many years. Terral was always an avid exerciser, training for 100-mile bike rides on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and taking long
hilly hikes at Oregon Ridge Park near their suburban Baltimore home.

Terral adored his two children. They often speak of his immense sense of humor, teachings, creative bedtime stories, and ability to talk through any subject. Terral was active in TR's boy scout troop where, together, they went on many adventures, including mountain
trekking at New Mexico's Philmont. With Allie Mac, they enjoyed listening to music and actively debating with each other while Terral taught her how to drive a car on the back roads of Assateague Island MD, and Chincoteague VA.

In later years, Terral and Lynn enjoyed many adventures together including hiking in New Zealand, bicycling 200 miles alongside the Danube River in Europe, and exploring SE Asia and Central America. In retirement, Terral was able to combine three of his passions: travel,
computers, and photography. As an amateur photographer, Terral traveled the world taking stunning photographs in India, Laos, Australia, New Zealand, and the Galapagos Islands. His photos were featured in two gallery shows in the New York City area.

Terral's first two degrees from UVA were in electrical engineering: a B.S. in 1967; a Master's in 1968. He earned his MBA from UVA's Darden School in 1976. An early marriage ended in divorce around that time.

Terral is succeeded by his second wife Lynn; sister Rita Anne Jordan; step-brother William Thompson ("Bill")(Doreen); son Terral Rankin Jordan ("TR")(Patricia M. Fogerson); daughter Allene McAteer Jordan ("Allie Mac"); and two grandchildren, Frances and Jack. After a
2018 diagnosis of Altzheimer's Disease, Terral stayed at home with Lynn in Cockeysville MD until moving in early 2023 to Broadmead, a retirement community. Terral quickly settled into the memory unit of Broadmead, where he was popular and lovingly cared for by staff until he
passed. There will be a "Celebration of Life" memorial service on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 2pm at Stony Run Friends (Quaker) Meeting at 5116 N Charles St, Baltimore, MD 21210. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome at any of the below three charities:
