Obituary

Sr. Louann Sciubba (Louanna) went peacefully home to her good God on Saturday, August 29, 2026, accompanied in prayer by her loving Sisters in community at the St. Julie Billiart Residential Care Center in Ipswich, MA.

She was born in Philadelphia, PA to parents Edward Sciubba of New York and Anna (Kobelnic) Sciubba of Philadelphia. After a year spent studying at Villanova University and teaching at St. Bernadette's, Drexel Hill, PA, she entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on August 10th, 1958, making her First Vows in 1961 and Perpetual Vows in 1966.

Sr. Louann completed a BS in Education at Trinity College in Washington, DC. She earned an MA in Religious Studies from LaSalle College in Philadelphia, and years later, an MS in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College in Maryland.

After teaching in Baltimore and Great Mills, MD, Sr. Louann Sciubba became one of the first Sisters in the Maryland Province appointed Director of Religious Education. She served in that capacity at St. Thomas More in Decatur, Georgia; Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Ridgewood, NY; St. Isaac Jogues Parish and St. Thomas More Parish, both in Baltimore; and Our Lady of Perpetual Health Parish in Woodlawn, MD.

In 1981 Sr. Louann began a long and productive tenure as Pastoral Associate at St. Louis Parish in Clarksville, MD which lasted 13 years. She left to serve as Leadership Team Member for the Sisters of Notre Dame's Chesapeake Province from 1998 – 2002. After her term ended, she spent the next 9 years working in Baltimore as Pastoral Counselor at St. Francis Academy and at the Suburban Pastoral Counseling Center.

As Sr. Louann entered her retirement years, she found more time for spiritual reading, contemplative prayer, cooking, gardening, and landscape painting. Her new Sisters in community at Ipswich benefitted from her deep sharing and generative, life-giving spirit. Her life-long friend and dear companion, Sr. Joyce McCauley, lovingly accompanied her throughout her life's journey at Ipswich.

Sr. Louann Sciubba is survived by her brother Gregory Sciubba and his wife Helen of Lansdowne, PA, nieces and nephews Gina Zambriczki, Kristen Sciubba, Bob Sciubba, Bill Sciubba, Kim Brennan, Bob Sciubba, Eric Sciubba, and Brian Sciubba; and several great nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by many close friends in Notre Dame, the Sisters and Associates in the greater Notre Dame community, and the dedicated staff of the St. Julie Billiart Residential Care Center.  She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Edward and Robert Sciubba.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffreys Neck Road, Ipswich, MA, 01938.
