On September 25, 2026, Shirley Frances Carl (nee Wagner) passed away peacefully in Towson, MD. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard David Carl, Sr.; devoted mother of Brenda Carl (Douglas Suthers), Richard David Carl, Jr. (Sharon), Julie A. Brown, and the late Daniel L. Carl; loving grandmother of Rebecca Plum (Ben), Tom Bridges (Amanda Rose), Daniel Bridges (Marisa), Jacob Carl (Madison), Ben Carl (Becca), and Annabelle Brown; cherished great-grandmother of Theodore Plum, Maxwell Plum, Madeline Bridges, Thomas Carl, Natalie Carl, and Matthew Carl; dear sister of Bonnie Sybert (George) and the late Ronald Wagner. Shirley is also survived by many other loving family and friends.
Born in Baltimore, August 15, 1935, Shirley was the oldest of three children born to Iola and Fred Wagner, growing up in Hampden before moving to Govans where she met the love of her life, Richard Carl who worked at a fruit stand on York Road.
After the marriage in 1954, Shirley and Dick had four children and enjoyed living in the Towson area. Shirley also earned her bachelors degree in biology attending Towson state University graduating in 1988 alongside daughter, Julie, who attended at the same time.
Shirley was an avid artist, and loved painting with watercolors; an excellent homemaker and cook, and shared her love of nature with everyone. She was a member of the Greenbrier Garden Club, Divinity Lutheran Church choir, did yoga with friends and kept current with the "Gibby Gals", her group of graduates (class of '54) from Eastern High School.
Shirley and Dick took many road trips together; to Chincoteague, New York to see Broadway shows, Cape Cod, OBX, and across Canada by train just a few years before Dick died in 2021.
Friends may visit at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Rd, Towson, MD on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Divinity Lutheran Church, 1220 Providence Rd, Towson, MD 21286 On Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 1PM. The interment will be private.
