Obituary

In loving memory of Salvatore Emanuel Anello, III, "Mannie"
(6/27/1947-10/24/2024)

With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Salvatore Emanuel Anello III, affectionately known as "Mannie," on October 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old.

Mannie is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine Anello; his two daughters, Kelly Anello McCone (Sean) and Erin Anello Osborne (J.B.); and his six cherished grandsons. He also leaves behind his younger sister, Josephine Anello Kaminski, along with many cousins, family members, and countless friends who held a special place in his heart. He is preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore Emanuel Anello, Jr. and Rose Fitzsimmons Anello, as well as his beloved brother-in-law, Kenneth Kaminski.

Mannie was a distinguished veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war before becoming a successful attorney and building the career he loved by serving his community from his law office in Arbutus, MD for 45 years.  Mannie graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School and Loyola College and earned his law degree from the University of Maryland Law School. He was a respected and beloved member of the Maryland Bar and known for his no-nonsense approach, partnered with empathy and determination to obtain justice for each of his clients. In his free time, Mannie immersed himself in local politics, inviting guests to discuss law and politics at his famed "Political Knights of the Arbutus Roundtable," as well as walking various dignitaries  and political candidates around the 4th of July parade in Arbutus each year.

Beyond his professional life, Mannie was a devoted family man. He married his high school sweetheart and cherished the role of husband and father, offering his charm, support, and unconditional love to his girls. He was a recreational basketball coach for his daughters and inspired them and their friends throughout the years encouraging them to excel both on and off the court. His greatest joy came from being "Pop" to his grandsons, a title he wore proudly.

In his downtime, he loved betting on the ponies and was an avid Orioles and Ravens fan – always quick to offer cynical praise and criticism – but his loyalty to the hometown teams was unquestionable. Above all else, he was a devoted Catholic who loved to praise Jesus Christ, singing loudly and proudly at Mass each Sunday with his renowned voice that is remembered by so many.

Though no one can tell his story quite like he could, Mannie's larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and warm heart touched the lives of so many. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the stories that narrated his life.

A viewing will be held at Ruck Funeral Home in Towson, MD on Friday, November 1st from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Parish Church in Cockeysville, MD on November 2nd at 11 am, with interment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens (Cockeysville). In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, which supports programs and services for wounded veterans and their families; as well as the Tower Fund at Mount St. Joseph High School, which financially aids students in need who could not otherwise afford the opportunity to access a valued Catholic education.
