Obituary

Salvatore Anthony (Sam) Culotta, 96, passed away peacefully early in the morning of December 22, 2025, at the Accent Care Hospice at Franklin Square Hospital. Sam spent his last day surrounded by his loving family. He lived a life marked by humor, kindness, service, and deep devotion to family and friends.

After graduation from Calvert Hall High School in the late 1940s, Sam met the love of his life, Jane (Tewey) Culotta and, after returning from two years in the Army in Europe, they married on May 30, 1953. He attended night school while working at General Electric; graduated from Loyola College in Maryland, and later joined Powercon Corporation, where he worked until he was 75 – all while helping Jane raise their five children.

Sam's life was truly centered around his family and faith. He was dedicated to his wife Jane and a proud and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He and Jane spent most of their lives as members of St. Ursula Church, where he was a cantor, CCD teacher, marriage preparation instructor, and parish council member. Sam took great pleasure in his large circle of friends and continued to make new friends at the Oak Crest Senior Living Center, where he and Jane moved in 2008. He was a man of total integrity who took great strength from his Catholic faith. He loved big band music, reading, the beach, Italian food and, most of all, Baltimore sports teams – the (Baltimore) Colts and the Orioles.

His warmth, kindness, and good cheer will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

In addition to losing his beloved wife Jane in 2011, Sam was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Rose Culotta, his brother Carmelo Francis Culotta, and his infant daughter, Jane Marie Culotta. He is survived by five children: Anthony J. Culotta and his wife, Vanessa Duran; Thomas F. Culotta and his spouse, Catherine (Kate) Culotta, formerly Finn; Patricia M. Culotta; Christopher M. Culotta (widower of Sharon Culotta, formerly Suelau); and Margaret C. (Peg) Kates (widow of Timothy Kates). He was the proud and much-loved grandfather of 12 amazing grandchildren; great grandfather of 25 rambunctious great grandchildren; and beloved uncle; brother-in-law; cousin; and friend to countless others.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 28, from 2-5 p.m., at Ruck Funeral Home at 1050 York Rd in Towson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 29, at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Oak Crest Senior Living Center on Walther Boulevard, with a visitation at 10:30 prior to the funeral Mass.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate a man whose perennial good cheer brightened our lives and whose presence will be deeply missed.  May Sam's memory bring us all comfort and continue to inspire love and laughter for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Crest Benevolent Association Fund.
