On October 3, 2024, Ruth Elizabeth Spann passed away peacefully in Towson, MD. She was the beloved wife of the late William Crawford Spann; devoted mother of Sean Spann and his husband Bud Williams and Chris Spann and his wife Shannon Wood; loving grandmother of Sydney Spann, Aidan Spann, Reece Spann, Jackson Spann, and Grier Spann; dear sister of Larry Heitmuller.

Ruth retired as Division Chief Finance at the National Security Agency after over 33 years of service. After fully retiring, she began another chapter living in Chincoteague Island, Virginia, where she became an integral part of the community. Ruth was passionate about history, and she started and was active in many book clubs as well as volunteering at the Chincoteague library.
