Obituary

On May 2, 2026, Robert William MacMeekin died in Phoenix, Maryland. He is the remarkable husband of Colleen Houlihan MacMeekin, and devoted father of Trevor MacMeekin and his wife Jennifer, and Alexandra MacMeekin Ryan; loving grandfather of Michael, Lucia, Amelia and Kevin MacMeekin, and William and Charles Ryan; cherished brother of Carolyn MacMeekin Johnson. Also survived by extended family and friends and by a community that he loved and served faithfully.

Robert "Bob" MacMeekin was born in Chicago, IL, and spent early childhood years in Evanston IL and California before moving to Baltimore County, Maryland.

A graduate of Towson High School, Bob went on to Michigan State University - he saw his future wife Colleen dancing at a fraternity event and knew she was the woman whom he wished to spend the rest of his life. They married 2 weeks after their graduation in 1973.

He loved his Sigma Chi fraternity experience. He was president of the MSU chapter and his fraternity brothers are his lifelong best friends, among others.

He served as National Alumni Secretary for Michigan State and founded the Baltimore chapter of MSU Alumni.

His love for the MSU Spartan Green and White was ever present and he proudly shared his love for his alma mater.

After college he and his wife moved back to the Baltimore area and Bob obtained his law degree from the University of Baltimore. During law school, he knocked on his family's neighbors' door and asked to intern as a law clerk at their firm.  It would be the only place he would work for 50+ years, moving his way to partner and eventually president - selflessly helping people and serving family, friends, and clients.

He enthusiastically coached his two children Trevor and Ally in their youth athletics - he had a very strong belief in team sports and the character it builds within young individuals, providing them tools for life - leadership, camaraderie, dealing with failure, and victory.

Bob enjoyed 35 years in the Millgate community in Phoenix, MD around loving neighbors and nature.

His faith in Jesus Christ only grew with each passing year; he was an active member and volunteer at the Church of the Nativity in Timonium, MD and enjoyed his men's small group which gathered regularly to share their strength in faith.

He enjoyed extensive travel with his family - national parks, cruises abroad, and seeing extended family throughout the country.

In addition to his own, Bob had an incredibly deep love for Colleen's family, which led to countless loving memories at their family cottage on Lake Michigan during summers and holidays.

Bob was a genuine role model.  So many will remember him for his strong commitment to helping others, staying humble, and showing gratitude for each day on Earth. He was never shy about speaking up for his beliefs.  He would do anything to protect his family and go the extra mile for both friends and strangers alike.
