**In Loving Memory of Robert F. "Kit" Carson II**
1940 – October 20, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Fulton "Kit" Carson II, a cherished husband, father, and friend who peacefully left us on October 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Robin, daughter Carrie Goldrick and her husband Sean, grandsons Carson and Ryan of Cockeysville, daughter Bailey McMahon and her husband Dan, and granddaughters Avery and Devon of Annapolis/Key West.
Kit was born in Huntington, West Virginia, in 1940 and grew up as an only child to Robert Boyd Carson and Thelma Royalty Carson. He is a descendant of Robert Fulton, the engineer and inventor of the steamboat. His father's career in the United States Public Health Service moved the family every two years, which motivated Kit to make friends quickly. This served him well throughout his life and career, where he knew no strangers, just friends he had not yet met.
Kit was selected to represent his Amherst Regional High School track team and competed at the State track meet at the Boston Gardens. He was awarded 5th place. However, he immediately told the judges, "My name has been called for 5th place in the Class D mile, and I don't deserve it, I was lapped twice." His honesty resulted in the rightful winner receiving the award, but not without notice by the local and regional newspapers. The Boston Globe headline read, "Diogenes, Here He Is". (Diogenes-a Greek philosopher who was always searching for an honest man).
After a post-graduate year at Mount Hermon School (Northfield Mount Hermon) in Amherst, MA, Kit earned an NROTC scholarship to Pennsylvania State University, where he ran cross country, became Freshman Class President, and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. Through school politics, he met the love of his life, Robin Brooks, who he later married in 1963, setting the stage for a remarkable 61-year marriage. Kit continually praised Robin for her beauty and unwavering love, illustrating a bond that was the envy of many.
Upon moving to Baltimore in 1965, Kit began his career in sales at IBM, his work continuing when his division was sold to Kodak; both companies benefitted from Kit's outgoing personality and strong work ethic. After retiring from Kodak, he started a new career as a financial advisor at Ameriprise Financial, from where he took a second retirement in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and dedication. In addition to working, Kit was actively involved in the Stoneleigh community and the community at large and was an avid golfer at The Country Club of Maryland. He, along with fellow fraternity brother and Baltimore native George Good, was asked by the Vice President of Towson University to establish a local SAE chapter where he continued his loyalty to the brotherhood.
Known for his steady moral compass, humorous quips, and positive spirit, Kit was affectionately respected by all who knew him. Kit had a unique ability to connect with people, often greeting them with a firm handshake, a laugh-inducing squeeze of the arm, or a warm embrace that made everyone feel valued and loved. His laughter and kindness left a lasting impression on all who encountered him.
Kit was the epitome of a devoted husband, father, and friend. He was an exemplary role model, always prioritizing family and instilling values of love and respect. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his children and grandchildren, who will carry forward the lessons of kindness and compassion he imparted.
A memorial service and a celebration of Kit's life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. at The Church of The Redeemer, 5603 N. Charles St. Baltimore, MD 21210. For those unable to attend the service, the church will be live streaming the service and people can follow the link starting about 10:44 AM, which is about 15 minutes prior to the service (Friday, November 8 at 11 AM). This is Redeemer's You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ChurchOfTheRedeemerBaltimore/streams?app=desktop In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memoriam of "Robert F. 'Kit' Carson/Sigma Alpha Epsilon" to Penn State Dance 'THON' -- a fundraiser supporting families impacted by childhood cancer. Donations may be made online at https://donate.thon.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donordrive.event&eventID=3836 or mailed to Penn State THON, 227D HUB, University Park, PA 16802.
Kit Carson will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared with all.
