Richard "David"
Magnani
d. May 19, 2026
Richard David (Dave) Magnani passed away on May 19, 2026, after suffering a bleeding stroke at his home in Abingdon, MD. He had just turned 64.
David was born in Baltimore City, MD on April 27, 1962. The family moved to Harford County when he was ten. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1980 and has maintained friendships with many of his classmates. He took a number of electronic and computer classes at Harford Community College. Dave had an engaging personality and enjoyed interacting with people of all ages. Many of his clients became longtime friends.
Dave's career began as a teenager working part-time in the arcade at Harford Mall where the owner of the arcade taught him how to repair pinball machines and video games. For several years after high school, Dave worked for a vending company honing the skills learned at the arcade. These skills evolved into Dave starting his own vending company focusing on video games, particularly Pac-Man. He soon included the sale, installation, servicing and repair, of computers and computer networks for small businesses. For a number of years, Dave had a store in the Golden Ring Mall for walk-in computer repair. The store also sold computers and related accessories. He became skilled in repairing practically any type of mechanical and electronic equipment. Dave was mostly self-taught and excelled in whatever he did. He was able to buy his first home at age twenty.
Dave enjoyed serving for many years the clients of his computer business, Microtek, Inc. Some of his clients were Aberdeen Proving Grounds, local churches and businesses, the Engineers Club, and many individuals, some of whom he's had a relationship with for more than 20 years. Recently, Dave was employed full-time by Smiths Detection; working on scanning machines for the TSA. He received several awards recognizing his unique ability to diagnose technical issues and resolve complex problems. He enjoyed his Smiths co-workers, especially sharing his knowledge. He found great satisfaction in the work he was doing. While working at Smiths, he continued serving many of his long-time Microtek clients. He loved to be challenged.
Dave enjoyed competitive shooting, photography, scuba diving, and sailing. He was an expert marksman, winning many awards. He had been a member of the Maryland State High Power Rifle Team. He was an NRA certified pistol and rifle instructor. He was a longtime member of the Baltimore County Game and Fish Protective Association and was heavily involved in its shooting and shooting education programs. Dave enjoyed photographing his family, nature, wild animals, his cherished pets and whatever interesting things caught his eye. He was especially proud of the photographs he took for the band Child's Play; one of his photos of the band appeared on the cover of the first issue of the magazine ROX.
Dave's survivors include: parents Richard "Dick" William and Joan Magnani; siblings Anita Dodsworth, husband Robert; Sherry Pinkard, husband Greg; Mark Magnani, wife Shelley; Nieces and Nephews Michael Yenchko, Elise (Yenchko) Powell, husband William Powell, Emily Pinkard, Jared Pinkard, Kristen Magnani, Rachel (Magnani) Brennan, husband Shane Brennan, and Thomas Magnani with whom he shared many memorable activies and hobbies; three Great Nieces and one Great Nephew; cherished sons Matthew, Daniel and Joseph.
