On May 12, 2025, Patricia Lane Colt (nee Peterson) passed away peacefully at The Blakehurst Retirement Community in Towson, Maryland.
Pat was born on September 18, 1934 in Faribault, Minnesota to Gwendolyn (nee Palmer) and Elwood Burdette Peterson. Her family moved to Baltimore during her childhood and she attended Eastern High School. Pat was a 1956 graduate of Church Home and Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore and received her nursing license in December of that year.
On July 27,1956, she married Rutger Barclay Colt Jr. She devoted her life to their children, her long nursing career, and her many friends and family members. At the time of her retirement from Maryland General Hospital, Pat was commended for her kindness, commitment to her profession, loyalty to her co-workers and for abiding by the tenets of the hospital and its foundational principles. Pat was a regular communicant at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Mount Washington where she volunteered at the Treasure Alley fundraising shop and enjoyed serving with the altar guild. Later in her life, she and her husband attended services at the Holy Comforter in Lutherville and she enjoyed serving on the altar guild.
A former member of the Meadowbrook Swim Club, Pat was an avid supporter of her children's swim team events. Pat enjoyed watching her sons' lacrosse games from Mount Washington youth lacrosse through Boys' Latin and collegiate competition. Pat always looked forward to visiting her grandchildren and cheering them on in their sporting events at all levels of competition. For many years, she enjoyed dancing with her husband at the Mount Washington Club. Pat and her husband sailed the Chesapeake Bay for over 50 years with family and friends. Pat was the honorary Admiral of their sailboat, "Mañana", and worked hand in hand with the Captain of her life exploring the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. She was an amazing gardener, chose the most meaningful gifts for those she loved and created beautiful memories with her family.
Pat is lovingly remembered by her husband, Rutger Barclay Colt Jr. and their children, Rebecca Colt-Ferguson (Jim), Rutger Barclay Colt III (Marcie), and Michael Trenholm Colt (Jackie) grandchildren, Meghan A. Ferguson, Clay J. Ferguson, Charlotte L. Colt, Rutger B. Colt IV, Elizabeth C. Dunavant, and Philip S. Colt, and great-grandson Noah M. Ferguson.
The family will accept visitors on Saturday, May 17th, 2025 from 11am – 12:30pm at The Church of the Holy Comforter, 130 W. Seminary Avenue, Lutherville, Maryland 21093. A funeral service will follow with musical prelude at beginning at 1 pm.
Private interment at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
