Nancy Horn Moffett, a beloved wife, loving mother. treasured friend, passionate collector, and gifted poet, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at Oak Crest Senior Living Community, surrounded by love and the memories of a full, vibrant life.
Born on March 15, 1933, Nancy grew up with a deep appreciation for beauty, culture, and tradition. She spent countless joyful summers on Gibson Island with her family that would forever hold a special place in her heart. Those long, golden summers shaped her adventurous spirit and deep connection to nature and family.
As a young woman, Nancy made her debut as a debutante, frequently featured in newspaper society pages, where her grace, charm, and refined sense of style were celebrated. But her poise was only one facet of her rich personality.
Nancy graduated from Marjorie Webster College. Upon graduating from college, she worked for The Baltimore Orioles, Mercantile Bank and ended her long work career at Towson University.
Nancy was a lifelong learner and an enthusiastic participant in her community. She was a proud and devoted member of both the Optimist Club and PEO International, where she dedicated her time to empowering others and promoting education, service, and optimism. Her commitment to these organizations was unwavering, and her contributions left a lasting impact.
One of Nancy's great passions was collecting thimbles. What began as a small interest blossomed into a remarkable collection numbering in the thousands. She was an esteemed member of multiple thimble clubs and became widely known in the community as a knowledgeable and engaging speaker. Nancy also authored featured articles about thimbles, sharing her insights, history, and love of the craft with collectors across the country.
Nancy was also a gifted poet, with a gentle and poignant voice that touched many hearts. She shared her poetry generously, using words to capture both the profound and the everyday moments of life. Whether writing about nature, love, or memory, Nancy had a way of distilling emotion into beautifully crafted verses.
Together with her beloved husband Dick, Nancy spent many grand years traveling the United States — a shared adventure marked by wonder, laughter, and deep companionship. Their travels were not only journeys of geography but of discovery, learning, and joy.
Nancy will be remembered for her elegance, her quiet strength, her creative soul, and her warm, welcoming presence. She lived a life rich in relationships, filled with purpose, and surrounded by beauty — both collected and created.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) Craig Moffett, Sr. , her parents Edgar George and Mae Kelly Horn, and loving sisters Virginia (Ginny)Johnson and Patricia Horn, and is survived by her children David E. Bagley, Robert (Rob) E. Bagley , and his wife, Beni (and her children and grandchildren), and Albert (Bret) F. Bagley, III, and step-children Richard (Craig) Moffett, Jr. and his wife Barbara, Robert Moffett , and Mary Lou Marriott, grandchildren Gary Bagley, Richard Moffett, III and his wife Sarah, and Jonathan (Blake )Moffett, great grandchildren Lexi and Emmy Moffett and many nieces, and nephews.
A private burial will be held on Thursday, June 25.
Nancy's life was a tapestry of art, kindness, curiosity, and love. She will be missed deeply and remembered always.
