He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal for his service.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked as a medical photographer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fort Howard, Md. He married Lucette, who worked as a secretary at the hospital at that time, on Nov. 21, 1956.
He later became an architectural draftsman and designer, starting as a draftsman apprentice at Whitman Requardt and Associates before going on to work for Mark Beck Associates Architects, and later the Rouse Co., where he worked on projects including the development of Columbia, Md., and Harborplace in Baltimore. Starting in 1970, Michael took in freelance work before incorporating his own firm, M.D. Bowers & Associates, in August 1976; he retired in August 1996. One of the company's major clients was the former Merry Go Round clothing chain, founded by entrepreneur Leonard "Boogie" Weinglass. Other clients included Winchester Homes and Ryland Homes.
Mike and Lucette were active members of the Towson United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years, participating in Couples Plus and planning Senior Adult travel bus trips. He and Lucette enjoyed traveling, visiting Europe, the United Kingdom and many states, and spending time at their beloved Fenwick Island, Del, beach condominium.
Mike was a 50+ year Mason, a member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge No. 116, and participated in many corn husking events at Bonnie Blink.
