Mary Miller "Pat" Smith Dunton Obituary

On July 10, 2026; Mary Miller "Pat" Smith Dunton; beloved wife of 67 years to the late Frank Winston Dunton; devoted mother of Mary Sharon (Sherry) Kappauf and her husband Bill, and Barbara Sue Scoffone and her husband Steve; cherished grandmother of Lindsay Pat Ros and her husband Vimul, Hannah Grace Scoffone, Lydia Joy Wasson and her husband, Mark, and Holly Ada Scoffone; loving great grandmother of Brielle, Elianna, Mason, Liam and Amelia.

Pat was born in Reisterstown, Maryland to loving parents Judge Michael Paul and Mary Lavinia (nee Zepp) Smith. She was the youngest of three siblings; Martin Paul Lee and William Bryce who predeceased her. Pat also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were a very special part of her life.

Pat graduated from Franklin High School in 1951 where she made lifelong friends that she kept in close contact and enjoyed seeing at yearly reunions.  She attended Western Maryland college and pursued courses to become a medical secretary.  Pat excelled at medical coding; her multi tasking and organization skills led her to a position with Obstetrician, Dr. William Caltrider at University Hospital.
Pat met the love of her life at her brother's dental office when she was 15 years old working as his first secretary.  Their first date was to the movies after dinner at the old Candle Light Inn on Frederick Road.  Their love blossomed and was a source of inspiration to all who came in contact with them over their 67 years together.

She was an active volunteer serving on the board of the Wesley Home, Towson Christian Women's Club, and Towson United Methodist church.  A favorite pastime was playing bridge throughout her life with many groups.  She was asked to play often as she excelled in this card game.
Pat became a devoted friend to anyone she came in contact with throughout her life.  Her example of "giving" has proved to be a trait her daughters and granddaughters carry on to this day.  She loved spoiling her family and would go to all lengths to make each family member happy.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 28 from 11:00am-12:00pm followed by a Memorial service at 12:00pm at the Towson Ruck Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment Druid Ridge Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to: Towson United Methodist Church, 501 Hampton Lane, Towson, MD 21286.
