Mary "Marge"
Margaret Eikenberg

Mary "Marge" Margaret Eikenberg
On June 30, 2026, Mary "Marge" Margaret Eikenberg passed away; beloved wife of the late Frederick "Fred" Joseph Eikenberg, Sr.; devoted mother of Frederick J. Eikenberg, Jr. and his wife Carolyn Munding, Mary Beth Swidersky and her husband Chris, and David Eikenberg and his wife Janine; loving grandmother of Jennifer Varga and her husband Chris, Allie Eikenberg, Ava Eikenberg, Morgan Swidersky, Olivia Eikenberg, Marleigh Swidersky, and Carly Eikenberg; cherished great-grandmother of Archer and Colter Varga; also survived by extended family and friends.
The oldest of three children of her parents, Joseph and Helen Seeberger, Marge was born and raised in Baltimore City and later moved to Essex, MD. She attended Catholic school her entire life, graduating from Catholic High. Her drive and work ethic were evident from an early age — she took her first job at a dress shop at just sixteen years old. It was around that same time that she met Fred, the man who would become her husband and partner for 52 years. Fred was part of a much larger family where Marge was more like a sister than a spouse to Fred's nine brothers and sisters and extended family. She cherished this special bond throughout her life.
Marge and Fred married in 1955 and soon after moved to Bel Air, Maryland, where they purchased a home and established roots. Marge worked as a paymaster in accounting for the Army until 1964, when their oldest son, Fred Jr., was born. With the births of Mary Beth in 1966 and David in 1969, Marge made the decision to stay home and devote herself to raising her children — a role she embraced fully. She was an avid reader, cook, and baker, a dedicated school volunteer, and a devoted sports enthusiast who cheered on her children through their many athletic pursuits. She was also a member of St Margaret Church choir for many years.
Family was everything to Marge. She loved hosting family gatherings for pool parties, birthday celebrations and summer cookouts. Marge was a talented cook and baker known for her spaghetti and meatballs, crab soup, sour beef and dumplings, Jewish apple cake, strawberry shortcake and pound cake — dishes that brought family together around her table for decades.
In 1978, Marge ventured into residential real estate and went on to become a 'powerhouse' in Harford County. She served on numerous boards including President of the Harford County Association of Realtors and the Maryland Multiple List Service. Her career was marked by remarkable achievement, from becoming the first million-dollar producer at Snodgrass Realtors to being named Harford County Realtor of the Year. A gifted Realtor deeply devoted to her clients, she was and continues to be admired by her peers for her honesty and integrity. In 2002, her daughter Mary Beth joined her and together they operated as The Eikenberg Team until Marge's retirement in 2014 at the age of 82.
Marge loved Harford County and always considered it home, even after moving to Howard County in 2011 to live in a guest home on her daughter and son-in-law's property. She continued to volunteer at school and made every effort to be present for her grandchildren's school events, sports and other milestones. She loved watching Jeopardy, Dateline, and her Wednesday evening line up of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D.!
Her greatest joy was her seven granddaughters and most recently her two great-grandsons, whom she loved dearly and for whom she would do anything. Those who knew her often say her greatest gifts were her selflessness and her ability to simply listen. She has an incredible ability to always find the positive in situations. She often used "quotes" as a reminder of what's truly important in life. She was a woman of deep faith and a strong, lifelong Catholic and watched Mass online every Sunday without fail, continuing the practice up until the time of her death.
Marge loved unconditionally. It was rare to ever hear her say a negative word about anyone. An eternal optimist, she also had a gift for stretching a dollar without ever being cheap. She was funny without even trying and gave us a lot of laughs to cherish. In her marriage, she was often the driving force, perfectly complemented by a husband who was funny, supportive, and a gifted athlete in his youth. Together they worked as a team and always showed up for their family as a united front. A truly remarkable woman who's values and guidance will continue to inspire us. Her absence will leave a profound void in our lives.
