Obituary

Mary Patricia DiPaula (Trish), 69, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. She is survived by her siblings Denny DiPaula (Ingrid), Meg Cavanaugh (Phil), Michelle Nelson (Doug), Deborah Galli (Chris), Chip DiPaula, and Joan Duckett (Bud). She was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Jim DiPaula.

Trish dedicated her entire career to social work, specifically helping children in the Baltimore City school system. After a career of selfless service, Trish's final wish was to be an organ donor, and thanks to her generosity, she will continue living in four recipient lives.

Trish graduated from Mercy High School in 1973 and then received her bachelor's degree from Franconia College in New Hampshire in 1977. She went on to earn a master's in social work from the University of Maryland. She also worked as a program manager and clinical instructor for the University of Maryland School of Social Work.

Trish's clinical career spanned over forty years across schools and community environments. She connected with young people, in particular, and her 11 nieces, nephews, and grand niece and nephew can all attest to her imagination, creativity, and quirky sense of humor.

Trish loved to read and to spend time outdoors. You'd often find her at the beach, in a kayak, hiking, or in the garden. She felt happiest outside, tending to her own plants or volunteering at the Cylburn Arboretum. She recently got involved with Baltimore City's tree-planting program, an organization whose mission she enthusiastically supported.

Trish retired from her private practice in 2022 which allowed her more time to travel. She took a trip to Italy last fall, where she explored her Italian heritage. She enjoyed making new friends on the trip, both fellow travelers and locals she met along the way.

When at home, Trish delighted in daily walks in the woods with her dog, Berkeley, whom she adored, and dinners with friends and family. She will be remembered most for her famous crabcakes, hearty laugh, and boundless compassion and commitment to helping others.
