Mary Denyse Barnes, otherwise known by her friends as "Denny" and her family as "Nici", passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22 at the age of 97. Born to Agnes and James Culver in Oneida, New York on October 20, 1927, Nici graduated from the College of Mt. St. Vincent in New York, with a degree in nursing and she worked as a nurse until she was 72 years young. A devoted Catholic, Nici traveled all over the world, including Europe, China, Egypt and Russia. But her favorite destination was always in the heart of the Adirondack mountains where she kept a camp in Eagle Bay, NY for over 40 years. A great outdoor enthusiast and athlete, Nici loved to hike, boat, bike, and cross country ski among other activities. Although her physical activities curtailed with age, she nonetheless remained an avid reader, gardener, bridge player, animal lover and she enjoyed nothing more than being with her large family. Her legacy is one of faith, perseverance, hard work and unconditional love. She is and will remain deeply missed.
Nici was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Thomas Clark Barnes, her beloved brother, Reverand James Culver and two of her much loved sons, James Culver Barnes and William Thomas Barnes. She is survived by 3 children, Dee Seipp (Stephen), Kevin Barnes (Zoa), Darrylynn Griffin ( Kevin) and 9 grandchildren, Bryan Seipp (Jessica), Dani Ryan (Andrew), Shannon Aronson (Zack), Andrew Seipp (Kristin) , Joshua Barnes (Ellington), Kendall Barnes (John), Shaun Griffin (Margot), Cody Griffin (Jackie), Devin Dixon (Dan) and 13 great grandchildren, Maddie, Liam, Hadley, Oliver, Mickey, Culver, Sullivan, Jude, Myles, Mallory, Owen, Cade and Lilah.
Interment will be private but the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on a date to be announced.
