Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Arle (nee Gunning), 83, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at Gilchrist Center Howard County in Columbia, MD.

Kathy is survived by her loving children Elise Brooks and her husband Brian, John Arle and his wife Heather, Christa Arle and her husband Hubert Clay, and Kathleen Arle. Kathy was the beloved Grandmother of Benjamin, Theresa, Eleanor, Samuel, Emerson and Henry. She is also survived by her sister Ann Haire and her brother Thomas Gunning, along with many, many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Ruck Funeral Home, 1050 York Rd, Towson, MD. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10:00am at Church of the Immaculate Conception in Towson, MD. https://theimmaculate.org/church/ A private family interment will be held at a later date at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.

Kathy was born, September 10, 1942, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Paul and Evelyn (Maxwell) Gunning. She attended Mount Saint Agnes College and became a teacher. She taught mathematics in the Harford County School System for many years, first at Southampton Middle School and then at Bel Air High School.

A lifelong Catholic, Kathy was an active parishioner at St. Mark's Church in Fallston, MD for 25 years and later joined Church of the Immaculate Conception in Towson, MD and Saint Francis of Assisi in Fulton, MD.

Kathy enjoyed spending time with her large family, especially her six grandchildren, traveling, reading, drinking coffee, and going to lunch with her friends.
