Markland H.
Boyce, Iii
d. Jul 18, 2026
Markland H Boyce III was born in Baltimore on 11/26/1929 to his mom (Elsie) and dad (Markland Jr). Later in life he celebrated every birthday on Thanksgiving with a chocolate pudding pie surrounded by family. He lived with his parents and sister (Louise) at Bayview Pharmacy on Eastern Avenue. He attended Boys Latin where he enjoyed playing basketball, football, and lacrosse until graduating in 1950.
Mark served his country in the Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed in Alaska during the Korean War while exchanging letters to Patsy Jean Blackburn who became his beloved first wife in 1953. During their 25 years together they welcomed three children, one of whom died in infancy.
After being widowed, Mark married JoAnne Armentrout in 1984. They shared a loving relationship with blended families for over 42 years. Following health challenges, he patiently cared for her until her death in 2025.
Mark worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric from 1953 to 1994 as overhead lineman. Whenever his family sees a bucket truck they think of him. He was a huge fan of all Baltimore teams, cheering on the Colts until they left in 1984 and then proudly donning the purple and black when the Ravens came to town. He loved the Orioles, no matter their record, volunteering at Camden Yards after retirement and patiently taping over 21 games in 1988 trying to send a win to his son who was working over seas.
Similar to Cal Ripken Jr., Mark never "missed a game" and showed up for his family in ways big and small. Mark enjoyed traveling to Spain, Germany, Hong Kong, Florida, California, Maine, Ocean City, Alaska, Hawaii, and Smith Mountain Lake. He also enjoyed playing cards. The roads are infinitely safer because of his attention to teaching generations how to adequately parallel park and merge onto highways. We will miss his laugh, affection, and most of all his mystifying witticisms.
He is survived by his children Glenn Boyce (Eleanor Bried), Jan Boyce, Ruth Sliviak (Greg Sliviak), Reid Windesheim (Jennifer Windesheim); his grandchildren Sarah Sabo (Robert Sabo), Melissa Sliviak (James Conde), Berrin Boyce (Chris Forde), Julian Boyce, Lauren Davis (Damien), Amanda Phipps (Louis); and great-grandchildren Elena Conde, Samuel Conde, Jane Sabo, Marie Sabo, Rose Sabo, Edith Sabo, Lucy Sabo, Sutton Forde, Maggie Forde, and Lily Phipps.
