Obituary

江礼斌 Libin Jiang (July 25, 1938 - June 17, 2025)

江教授 Professor Jiang was born in 枞阳, 安𡽪 Zongyang, Anhui as the fourth child in a family of seven children. He met his future wife 金泽舜 Ms. Zeshun Jin at age 24 who was the Head of the Nursing Department at 合肥第四人民医院 Hefei Number 4 People's Hospital. They were completely devoted to each other, married for 63 years, inseparable, unable to bear being apart especially now.

As an inquisitive, diligent, and precocious learner, Professor Jiang attended  合肥工业大学 Hefei University of Technology, stayed with the university 留校任教 since graduation in 1960,  ascended to the role of Full Professorship of Mechanical Engineering。 He taught undergraduate and graduate students for more than forty years as a beloved pedagogue and mentor. His innumerable students, faculty colleagues, and friends remember him for his energetic spirit, strong work ethic, and beautiful penmanship. He received numerous accolades and awards from the university and government. He loved his career and teaching. His students can be found thriving across the world from China to America in successful and prominent positions through Professor Jiang's edification and mentorship. In his retirement, he pursued his love of engineering by continuing to tinker with his bicycles and clocks and pursued his love of scholarly work by reading and journaling extensively and solving mathematical problems for leisure.

Professor Jiang and his wife raised three beautiful accomplished children: 振华 Zhenhua (小肥), their eldest son, 鸣亚 Mingya (小马), their middle child, and 洪玲 Hongling (小妹), their third child and daughter. They instilled in their children the importance of education, a strong work ethic, discipline, and perseverance, which they in turn passed to their children. Through their parents' upbringing, all three children attended universities in China, then continued their graduate education at Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, and Southern Methodist University.

Professor Jiang and his wife immigrated to America to live in Plano, Texas, upon the birth of their youngest grandchild 小宝 and namesake 子江 Jonathan. They helped raise Jonathan and his older sister 爱灵 Ailing into their twenties, going on fun-filled family holidays that took them to explore America's splendors. He worked for Plano Independent School District for seven years to contribute to his community. For a time, they moved to Durham, North Carolina to spend more time with their son Mingya and his family. In the last few years of Professor Jiang's life, he and his wife lived in Towson, Maryland to spend more time with their son Zhenhua and his family.

Professor Jiang is survived by his wife 金泽舜 Zeshun; younger sisters 江晓薇 Xiaowei and 江解生 Jiesheng and younger brother 江礼和 Lihe; three children 振华 Zhenhua and his wife 春华Chunhua, 鸣亚 Mingya and his wife 大可 Dake, and 洪玲 Hongling and her husband 杨叶文Yewen; and six grandchildren Damien (天易), Olivia (中美), Ailing (爱灵), Allan (天舜), Lynnette (玲玲 - 玉清), and Jonathan (小宝 - 子江). To our 爸爸 and our 爷爷, we remember him for his dearest care, timeless wisdom, and strongest of wills – meeting every challenge with unwavering strength and courage. He lives on in the blood and souls of his family and will be reunited with them in the future.
