Leonard "Bill" Bailey Rowles, Jr. a lifelong resident of Baltimore MD, passed away on June 2, 2025 from natural causes at age 99. He was the only child of Margaret and Leonard B. Rowles, Sr.

He was a WWII veteran, dedicated family man, business leader, lifelong academic, and world traveler. Building and flying model airplanes was his favorite hobby. He had a superior intellect and lifelong love of learning.

He met the love of his life, Louise, on the local tennis courts when they were teenagers. They were happily married for 53 happy years until Louise's death in 2011. Bill was chosen for the ASTP (Army Specialized Training Program) due to his aptitude for foreign language. During WWII the US Army sent Bill to Yale University to study Japanese, then on to Japan where he served as an intelligence officer during the post war occupation. He never lost the ability to speak Japanese.

On his return from military service, Bill and Louise were married and started a family. Bill joined his father's accounting firm and attended Johns Hopkins University. He became managing partner of Rowles and Company until his retirement. He also taught accounting at Johns Hopkins University for many years.

Bill remained academically engaged into his later years through the adult education courses offered by the Johns Hopkins Osher program. Bill and Louise loved to travel, especially with their adult children, and their many memorable journeys took them all over the world. Bill was a bon vivant with a wonderful sense of humor.

Bill is survived by his three children: Jim Rowles (Denise Challen), Tom Rowles (Karen), and Peggy Sachs (Louis); six grandchildren: Kelli Davis (Wade), Andy Rowles, Katie Hyde (Jesse), Kate Leventhal (Steve), Maggie Mahmood (Fahad), and Evie Sachs (Rafael Arguelles); 13 great-grandchildren; and his cherished companion in his later years, Marianne Hanyi.
