Pat and Len began a new chapter in their 61 year love story when they both passed away within hours of one another. Differing medical needs required hospital stays in recent weeks, and as their situations became dire, the hospice team arranged it so they could spend precious last moments together before they peacefully slipped away. Although their last days were surreal, it seemed fitting that they died as they lived-forever together.
Pat was born on June 18, 1942, the youngest of five children born to Margaret and John Teipe. She graduated from Mt. St. Agnes High School and worked in administrative support positions for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Gebco, Nationwide, Fireman's Fund, and Goodell Devries Leech and Dann.
Len was born on August 9, 1940, the third of ten children born to Margaret and Maurice Klein. He graduated from Loyola Blakefield and Loyola College. He was a financial analyst and worked for Esso (Exxon), Bendix, Gould, and Lockheed Martin.
Pat and Len married in 1963, started their life on Kennoway Road in Loch Raven, and then moved to Forest Hill where they lived for 54 years. Along the way, Laurie and Steven entered the picture and filled their lives with school volunteering, carpool lines, coaching youth sports, and attending high school games. Being involved with their children became their hobby, and they never missed a contest. They believed in Catholic education and sacrificed much to be sure their children received a solid foundation.
Pat was always the first to knit you a baby blanket when a little one arrived. Homemade chocolate Easter eggs, hand-sewn Halloween costumes, and poundcakes were also specialties. She was a stickler for proper grammar and was forever extolling the virtues of a properly written thank-you note. She loved board games and was not one to "let the grandkids win" for fun. Dad could fix anything and was infamous for never having to call the repairman, much to Pat's dismay-you have to witness the garage to believe it. Lenny would often regale the family with legendary stories about his football glory days while Pat rolled her eyes at the latest embellished version.
In later years, they enjoyed traveling the world with a highlight being a family trip to Alaska. Len and Pat relished in seeing their grandchildren and were not daunted by the hours of travel required to see a 40 minute lacrosse game or a school event. Treasured summers at the beach or lake just sitting around and catching up with them will be missed. Great-grandchildren brought new blessings in recent years and heart-bursting smiles to their faces.
Pat and Len taught their family integrity. There was no missing school or work, period. Ever. Keep the important things first-faith, family, and loyalty. They were always there for anyone who needed them. Do things right the first time. And, who can forget Lenny's mantra, "Everything in moderation." They created many beautiful memories we will all treasure in our hearts and have set a loving, steadfast example for their family.
Pat and Len were predeceased by loving brothers, sisters, and family members whom we know have welcomed them with open arms. They are survived by their children Laurie Huger (Ben) and Steve Klein (Kathy). Grandchildren Ben Huger IV (Katie), Lane Huger, Chris Prisco, Matt Prisco, and Shannon Welch (Alex). Great grandchildren Ben Huger V, Ryan Welch, Charlie Welch, and Andy Welch. Pat is also survived by her sister Annamarie Kehl, and Len is survived by his brothers and sisters Maurice Klein (Joanne), Margie Heath (Allen), Bob Klein (Linda), Joan LaPointe, Dottie Smith, and Doug Klein (Maggie). Also left to treasure their memory are many beloved nieces and nephews.
