Obituary

Laura Edwards Foust January 17, 1939 - October 25, 2026

Laura E. Foust passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, four days after the death of her beloved husband, James R. Foust.

Laura was born in Asheville, NC and grew up with her eight siblings on their family farm. After high school, Laura ventured to Maryland with her brother, where she met her husband, Jim and they were married in April 1959. Laura and Jim were blessed with 67 years of loving marriage, two daughters, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Laura taught preschool for many years at Dundalk United Methodist Church and Childcare. There, she inspired a love of learning, reading, singing, and playing for children in the Dundalk community. Laura was also very active in her own children’s school activities, serving in the PTA, being a room mother and volunteering with the Girl Scouts. She was a long time member of Dundalk Methodist Church and a member of the choir until its closure. Laura also sang in the Dundalk Christian Chorale, sharing her love of singing with many dear friends.

Laura will be most remembered for her kind, generous, and loving nature. She raised her children and grandchildren with overflowing love and helped friends and neighbors in need when she was able. She loved singing, her family, cooking and baking for loved ones, the fourth of July, chocolate peanut butter ice cream, and a giant hunk of backfin on a crab leg. Her roast beef gravy was legendary.

Laura is survived by her daughters Patricia Hagan and Barbara Foust, her son-in-law Charles Hagan, grandchildren Katie (Steve) Jones, Caroline (Kevin) Smith and Noah Hagan. She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Jillian and Henry Jones, Allison Smith, and a brother, David Edwards. Laura was predeceased by her husband James, parents William and Anne Edwards, and siblings, William, Robert, Eugene, Ben, Elizabeth, Mary Anne and Frances, and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Smith.

Visitation will be held with the family at Duda Ruck Funeral Home on Wise Avenue in Dundalk from 9:00 – 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 27th. A service to celebrate Laura’s life will follow at 10:00 AM

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association of America
