On December 2, 2024, at the age of 40 years, Katharine Jyostna Gita Greener-Hage passed peacefully on to eternal life after a serious illness. Katie was the much-loved adopted daughter of Deborah Greener and Marilyn Hage, and the dear sister of Anne Eubanks. She is also survived by her Grandfather Greener, her brother-in-law Stephen, step mom Denise Luberecki, and many aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the Greener-Hage families. Katie also leaves behind many close friends from school, college, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and church.
Katie was born February 20, 1984 in Calcutta India and cared for by the International Mission of Hope prior to being brought to the US for adoption at 3 months. On her arrival she was very ill and required a lengthy hospitalization. She was diagnosed at a young age with Muscular Dystrophy (Rigid Spine Syndrome), scoliosis and unilateral hearing loss. Despite her ongoing and progressive health issues, Katie had a very strong faith and maintained a courageous and
joyful spirit throughout her life.
From preschool onward, Katie loved school. She attended Lutheran elementary, middle and high school, graduating from Baltimore Lutheran in 2002. After high school Katie attended Towson University (TU) and received a BS in Geography & Environmental Planning in 2006. After graduation she worked as an intern at TU's Geographical Information Systems Center and was brief employed by Baltimore Gas & Electric in her field. After her employment she returned to TU and received a BS in Deaf Studies in 2013,achieving a certification in American Sign Language.
As her friends and family can attest, Katie was passionate about many things: her cats (most recently Leia), fishing in both MD and NC waters, baseball (the Orioles), football (the Ravens and hockey (the Capitals). She also loved to make cards for her friends and family, each one individually decorated to the special interests of the person. Other passions were completing complicated 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, attending musicals and visiting museums. She loved dining out, especially if seafood and guacamole were involved!
Katie spent the last several weeks of her life in the Medical ICU at John's Hopkins Hospital. We are extremely grateful for the incredible expertise, caring and support that the entire Hopkins medical, nursing and respiratory care team provided to Katie and our family.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katie's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (www.mda.org) or Christ Lutheran Church at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore
