Josselyne
Edeline
d. Apr 8, 2025
On April 8, 2025, Josselyne Edeline (nee Bazelais), passed away peacefully in Lutherville, MD. She is the beloved wife of Claude Edeline; devoted mother of Patrick Edeline and his wife Lauren and Florence Edeline; loving grandmother of Leah Kirby (Brennan), Christine Crippen (Josh), and Alexandra Fairbee (Ryan); cherished great-grandmother of Renn Kirby, Beau Kirby, and Lucy Fairbee; dear brother Franctz Bazelais, Adrien Bazelais, Francoise Bouchereau, and Reggie Bazelais.
Josselyne Bazelais Edeline, known to us as Josselyne, Grand-Mère, Joss, Ti-Joss, Madame, and Mom.
She was raised in a wonderful and loving family by Colonel Max and Jacqueline Bazelais in Port au – Prince Haiti. She was the 1st of 5 children
Josselyne first met Lieutenant Claude Edeline in Kingston Jamaca where she was studying after completing her high school studies. She and Ghyslaine Edeline, my dad's sister, were passengers in a friend's car when they were in an accident. Dad went to help Ghyslaine who was in the hospital, and through friends, met her. Once back in Haiti, with a background in military operations, in the Haitian army, went on special mission to win the heart of this stunning 20-year-old. Within 18th months, they were married on April 4th 1959. In January, along came their first born, Patrick and 19 months later Florence (Mimi) was born
When not working at the West Indies Telephone International, mom loved spending time with family and friends at regular large but simple dinners. She was always dressed to the nines, especially when she was dancing at Cabane Choucoune on Saturday night and loved bathing in the warm Caribbean.
Her beautiful life in Haiti changed without warning on April 26th, 1963, when the unimaginable became all too real and many months later, she at the age of 27 and Claude, at the age of 30 fled to the U.S. for their lives with two toddlers and $35 to their name.
The next 61 years tested them, but they persevered and grew, rebuilding their life in Baltimore.
She cared for an extended family as everyone made a life for themselves in the U.S. Mom worked at the Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland Hospitals in Medical Records, taught Spanish at Bryn Mawr, tutored a number of students, and throughout the years cared for 12 young men at her home so they could attend Gilman.
While she enjoyed her travels, her happy place was her home at 616 West University Parkway, especially during Christmas and spending time caring for her gardens. She enjoyed her yoga and exercise classes, morning walks, off-season visits to the Carousel in Ocean City, and most impressively, spoiling everyone with her cooking. But, most of all her closest friend was her daughter, Mimi.
Josselyne, Grand-Mere, Joss, Ti-Joss, Madame, Mom, you left us too soon, but we know you are in a good place and have the peace which you so deserve. You will always have a place in our hearts and will be missed terribly.
The family will receive friends at the family-owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road (Beltway Exit 26) on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 10:30-11am, at which time the Memorial Service will begin at 11am. The inurnment will follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
