On November 25, 2025, Joseph M. Ruppel died peacefully in Lutherville, MD. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Ruppel and Helen L. Ruppel (née Greco). Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Coppolo Ruppel, and by his devoted daughters, Emily K. Ruppel and her husband Thomas Jackson, and Abigail L. Ruppel and her partner, James Vitale. He also leaves behind his cousins Rita and Leo Leilich, with whom he shared a special bond, and a wide circle of friends, whose visits were a great comfort.

Born in Baltimore in 1951, Joe was a lifelong resident of the Baltimore area. He graduated from John Carroll High School and went on to earn a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Maryland and a master's degree from Towson University.

Joe's career as a hospital pharmacist at Mercy, University of Maryland, and Good Samaritan Hospitals led to many of the defining relationships of his life.  He met friends and mentors who became like family through the various pharmacies in which he worked and the meaningful connections he forged while serving in leadership roles within the Maryland Society of Hospital Pharmacists.  Most importantly, he met Lisa, his wife of 36 years, in the pharmacy at the University of Maryland hospital in 1987. Together, they raised twin girls, Emily and Abigail.

A man of steadfast dedication, Joe committed himself not only to his family and career but also to his faith and lifelong love of Baltimore sports. A lifetime Orioles fan and Baltimore Colts season ticket holder, he came to love the Ravens as well. Joe was also a devoted Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Isaac Jogues Church in Parkville, MD.

Joe's family will receive friends at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 York Road on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 4-8 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Isaac Jogues Church. Interment will be held privately by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorial contributions in Joe's name to St. Isaac Jogues Church (9215 Old Harford Road Parkville, MD 21234), Gilchrist Hospice (11311 McCormick Road Suite 350 Hunt Valley, MD 21031) or to the charity of your choice.
