Obituary

Joseph T. Chadwick, Jr., 76, husband, father, brother and grandfather, of Cockeysville, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on December 30, 2024 after battling head and neck cancer. He was born December 10, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Joe was a graduate of Washington and Lee University class of 1969 and University of Maryland Law School class of 1975. Throughout his career in finance he worked at T. Rowe Price, Vanguard, Mercer, ICMA and finished his career at running his own consultancy, The Chadwick Group, which continued until his death in 2024. From 2006 - 2016, Joe served as Adjunct Faculty at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School teaching strategic planning and as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Maryland Defense Force, serving in the Judge Advocate Corps, from 2004-2019. He also worked with Angles of the OR from 2007 - 2014 serving as both a board member and President of the foundation.

He was deeply committed to serving his faith communities over the years including St. Christopher's Church in Gladwyne, PA; St. James Episcopal in Monkton MD, where he served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden, and finally Immanuel Episcopal Church in Glencoe, MD where he served in various leadership roles. He sang in the choir from the time that he was in elementary school, starting with the Boys Choir at St. David's in Roland Park, at St. James, and Immanuel until his cancer made it impossible for him to continue singing in 2023.

He was an avid reader, consuming business and finance publications constantly and could read a novel in a day. He was especially fond of suspense and criminal fiction novels. He always dressed to impress; casual Joe was loafers and slacks. Joe traveled the world with his wife going to destinations in Europe, China, Russia, Egypt, and Turkey. He enjoyed learning about other cultures and took that knowledge into how he saw the world.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, JoLynn Tiralla Chadwick; daughter Tracey Chadwick Pilone and husband Dan; daughter McClellan (Kelly) Chadwick Francis and husband Dan; daughter Elizabeth (Becky) Chadwick Blight and husband Garrettson; grandchildren Vinny and Nick Pilone; Allegra, Ramsey and Max Francis; and Caleb, Carter and Connor Blight; sister Anne Vallotton and brother Sterling Chadwick and wife Diane.
