John A. (Jack) Webb, Jr., AIA, was a retired architect in Baltimore, MD who passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025 in Parkville, MD. He was 96 years old and had earlier lived in the Maxalea area (east of Stoneleigh) in Towson, prior to moving to Oak Crest Village in 2002.
Born in Baltimore and raised in Fawn Grove, PA., he was the son of John A. (Jack) Webb, Sr., a farmer and corn canner, and Mary Etta (Griffith) Webb, a seamstress. His beloved wife of 56 years, June (Dawes) Webb, from Dover, PA, passed away in 2009. He was the devoted father of Beth A. Joerger (John) of Bel Air and John C. Webb (Mary) of Middle River: loving grandfather of Tifany Wentz(Eddie), William Thomas Vickers IV. (Arianna), Jack Webb, Sarah Webb, Michael Webb, Lauren Webb and Christopher Padron: Cherished great-grandfather of Jasmin Madrigale (Josh), David Michael Madrigale, Kayley Madrigale (Cristian), Andrew Wentz and Hailey Vickers: and his 8 great-great grandchildren.
He graduated from Delta High School, PA in 1947 and Penn State University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree.
After college, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in a Construction Battalion located in Germany and France.
Following his military service, he resumed work in architecture in the Baltimore and Towson areas. He worked for Smith and Veale, where he designed Battle Monument and Charlesmont Elementary Schools. He then worked for Wilson, Christie and Associates in Towson, where he designed alterations and additions to St. Paul's School for Girls and offices and warehouses in the Towson area.
Subsequently, he became a partner in the firm of Wilson, Magruder, Webb, Ratysch, where he had major design roles on Hampton House Apartments (Towson's first high rise building), the first two phases of the Franklin Square Hospital Center, a number of projects at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.. That firm also designed the Maryland Center for Public Broadcasting in Owings Mills and the Hampton Plaza complex in Towson.
From 1997 to 1982 he was a partner with Eugene Ratych in the firm of Webb/Ratych, Inc.. Among the projects that firm designed were several schools for Prince Georges County, modifications to the Maryland Center for Public Broadcasting, master planning for The Village at Augsburg, and the Medical Arts Office Building at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.
In 1982, he joined the University of Maryland at Baltimore in the Facilities Management Group as Supervisor of Architectural Services, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. During that time he was active in the Baltimore Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute.
He was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Towson from 1961, having served as congregational president and Elder. He subsequently continued to be active in New Thing Lutheran Church, a new congregation formed in 2020 by a partnership between First Lutheran Church and Concordia Preparatory School in Towson, MD.
He also served on the Board of the Lutheran Mission Society for over 20 years.
Subsequent to his retirement in 2002, he and his wife moved to Oak Crest Village Retirement Community in Baltimore County. There he enjoyed remote control sailboat racing on OCV's Lake Victoria and was active in the Speakers Series group.
After his wife's passing, he joined the Free State Theatre Organ Society and became a part of their organ crew in 2010, where he assisted in rebuilding a 1929 four manual/19 rank Mighty Wurlizter Theatre Pipe Organ for the Rice Auditorium in Catonsville.
Jack was a devout man of faith who dearly loved his family and his church. Throughout his life he sought to walk with Jesus.
Visitation will be held at Ruck Funeral Home in Towson (Beltway exit 26) on Sunday, November 16 from 3-7pm. A funeral service will be held at Oak Crest Chapel 8820 Walther Boulevard on Monday, November 17 at 10:30 am followed by a luncheon. A private Interment will be in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to New Thing Lutheran Church.
