John Louis Martin

John Louis Martin (John L), husband of Linda, father of Bria (Alex) Freyer, son of Monroe and Betty, brother of Eddie Hamilton and Mary Jane (Jim) Hampson, and uncle of Lani (Mark) Mellendick, Stacy (John) Coakley, and Andrew (Suzanne) Hampson, passed peacefully on October 5th, 2026 after a life well lived.

Born and raised in Towson, MD, John L enjoyed over 40 years of marriage to his middle school sweetheart. He spent 45 years as a crane operator in Operating Engineers Local 37 working projects throughout the Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay areas, many of which were alongside his Father and Brother. After work he was often traveling the region to attend Bria's softball, soccer, and basketball games, or watching the Orioles and Colts/Ravens play. In retirement, John L moved to the beach, a lifelong goal, where he was a fixture at the State Line beach in Fenwick Island (known to some as the “Tan Man”). Any time the sun was shining, he had his toes in the sand.

A memorial service will be held on October 26th, 2026 at 1 PM at Rucks Funeral Home Towson [Address]. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
