Obituary

On September 4, 2024, James H. "Jim" Bockstie died peacefully at home in Overlea. He was the beloved husband for 55 years of the late Mary "Diane" Bockstie (nee Dunn). He is survived by his devoted daughters Melissa Chupp (Greg), Vanessa Bennett (Jim) and Erin Hancock and by his cherished grandsons Marshall Fabricant, Wyatt Fabricant, Hunter Bennett, Brandon Chupp, Sean Hancock, Jacob Bennett, Ryan Hancock, and Tiernan Hancock. Jim is also survived by his loving brother Gerard Bockstie,  brother in law Timothy Dunn (Patricia) and sister in law Peggy Barrett.  Also his beloved nieces and nephews; Michael Bockstie (Lisa), Kathleen Becker (Bryan), Jill Dunn, Kelley Lennon (Brian), Ashleigh Greaver (Zach), Matthew Barrett (Megan), Jennifer Cox (Brad), Ashley Cockey (Tyler), Chris Townsley (Beth), Lauren Yankolonis (Eric), Brenna Dunn (Jenna). He loved you all as if you were his own.  Also survived by his best friend, Mr. Clarence Jones.  Jim and Clarence worked together at Verizon for 33 years and have continued to work together repairing vehicles since 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Margaret Bockstie, brothers in law Rick Barrett, John C. Dunn and sisters in law Mary Bockstie and Nancy Dunn.

Jim lived with his beloved wife Diane in Overlea for all of their married life. He was an ASE Certified Automotive Mechanic and was a highly skilled craftsman. Through the years, he remodeled every room of the beautiful home he and Diane shared on Willow Avenue with their girls. His passions were cars and trains. It wasn't Christmas without a visit to the train garden he lovingly crafted throughout the year, and he loved sharing nuances of the layout with everyone that visited.

He loved his grandsons more than anything. His eight boys were the light of his life, always making the greatest effort to support them.  Many hours were spent traveling to baseball, bowling, football, disc golf, karate, robotics…he always showed up.

As his daughters, we are grateful for the values he instilled in us: patience, grace, and kindness and most of all love.  To us he was Dad, but to so many friends that he loved like family, he was Mr. Jim.  He was modest, humble and kind and was a mentor and friend to so many. We will forever miss him and the impact he had on our lives.
