Obituary

James Victor Stout Jr.

James (Jim) V. Stout, 90, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025

Jim was born in Baltimore, MD. to the late J. Victor and Catherine Stout. His parents taught him, along with his older sister Marlene, to work hard, care for others, and enjoy the good times. He was very musical and in addition to mastering several instruments he studied the piano at the
Peabody Conservatory. He played with his father in "Stout's Orchestra," when not serving as an altar boy, attending Mt. St. Joseph's High School, helping his father deliver rental TVs, working on his old blue Chevrolet, or visiting with extended family and friends.

Jim met the love of his life, Doris Ann Peterson, at a CYO dance where he held open the door for her. "Always a gentleman," she says, "he serenaded me over the phone with favorite Frank Sinatra songs. I was quite taken." They were married for 71 years.

Jim received an accounting degree from Loyola College and worked at McCormick's for over 30 years – his last position as a tax comptroller. (His mother was always proud of "My son, the executive.") Weekends would find him running down his self-made list of chores, keeping the
home-front safe and sound for his family which eventually included four children, James Victor (the 3rd,) Nancy, Janice, and Daniel, as well as much-loved dogs- Freckles, Abbie, Tillie, and sweet Millie.

Jim cherished times with his children, doing his part to shuttle them to their sports, music lessons, library, activities, and church every Sunday. He accompanied them on his guitar, taking special requests, when they played "Stage." He joyfully jumped with them in the ocean waves.  He was happy to take sailing any who wanted to come on the boats he built himself. He serenaded them to sleep many nights by the smooth sound of his piano. He liked to laugh heartily and shared with them a great sense of quiet humor. He, along with Doris, taught them what it meant to be honest and steady.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Doris, as well as his children and their spouses along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was further blessed to have 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren who enjoyed time spent with their kind and clever "Pop" and who also
liked to admire his amazing gallery of acrylic paintings which he completed in his retirement years.

All of us carry our own special memories of Jimmy/Jim/Dad/Pop in their hearts and we will always treasure the days shared with our smart, industrious, musical, creative Piano Man.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Stella Maris Chapel in Timonium, MD, on Wednesday, November 12th, at 11 AM.  Private Interment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
