James Raymond Howard III, age 84, of Baltimore, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, at Gilchrist Hospice.

He was born on September 23, 1941, in Baltimore to Ruth Helen Brooks and James Raymond Howard Jr. Jim was defined by his kindness, a deep love of the outdoors, and an unwavering dedication to his daughters and to his students.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Labanz (Christopher) and Christy O'Brien (Christopher), and their mother, Pamela Scott. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Justin Labanz, Abigail Labanz, Shelby O'Brien, and James O'Brien, who brought immense joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Brooks Howard.

A viewing will take place at Ruck Funeral Home Towson on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00–8:00 PM. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date on his beloved Ropes Course at The Park School of Baltimore. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to The James R. Howard outdoor education fund at The Park School of Baltimore. Donation link
