Obituary

Iris Virginia Langdon Drum, beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and lifelong Dundalk neighbor, passed peacefully in her sleep on November 20th. Born May 28, 1935 to William and Alverta Langdon, Iris was a constant learner, humorist, and life of the party. Having graduated from Dundalk High School in 1953, followed by a successful and raucous four-year stint at Maryland State Teachers College at Towson, class of 1957, Iris taught at Dundalk Elementary and then Middle School for over 30 years. She was known for her welcoming classroom, her sharp wit, and her Fourth of July parties. Iris loved the beach, traveling, reading her many books, and washing down Maryland crabs with a Stella. She was a devoted fan of Gunsmoke.

Nothing was more important to Iris than friends and family. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Barrie Drum and her partner Don Dunphy, Susan Drum and her partner Scott Beasley, and Heather Drum Corasaniti and her husband Leonard, as well as her two cherished granddaughters, Nora Corasaniti Hudson and her husband Justin, and Mairin Corasaniti. She is additionally survived by her sister, Phyllis Nelson, and her nephews William Nelson, David Nelson, and Alan Nelson and their spouses. She also leaves behind a number of beloved friends, including Emmy Lee Steigelman, Betty Lee Mueller, Tish and Dick Weise, Lesley Mulcahy, and many more, although she is now reunited with a number of friends that she dearly missed.

Neighbors, past students, friends, admirers, suitors, and cowboys will be welcome to join us at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk on Thursday, December 5. Visiting hours will be from 3pm-5pm, with a short service immediately following at 5pm. The family has requested that loved ones make a donation in memory of Iris to the Mote Marine Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, or a charity of your choice. Iris loved wild animals, Native American heritage, museums, reading, learning, and history, so follow your heart. Flowers are also welcome.
