On February 23, 2011 Irene Papaminas, loving sister of Andrew Papaminas and wife Sunday, Patricia Liacopulos and her late husband Peter, doting aunt of Fr. George Liacopulos and wife Presvytera Voula, Dr. Ernest Liacopulos, Anastasios Papaminas and wife Georgia, Gena Liacopulos, Parris Papaminas, Stavros Papaminas and wife Catherine, Joni Bellenoit and husband David, great aunt of Peter, John, Mark and Andrew. Preceded in death by her parents Anastasios and Eugenia Papaminas and her beloved Meredith George. Irene was born March 17, 1928 in Weirton, West Virginia. A graduate of Eastern High School, she worked for the U.S. Air Force Office in Baltimore, and the Social Security Agency in Baltimore. For 42 years she was the Executive Administrator to Dr. Albert Owens the Director of Oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Much of her philanthropic work was spent with the immigrant patients at the hospital. She enjoyed doing crosswords, reading a variety of books, playing bridge, and was also a great cat lover. She was very active with the social events at Mays Chapel where she lived.

Friends may call on Sunday 3-5 & 7-9 p.m., with a Trisagion at 7:30 p.m. at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road, Towson, MD (Beltway Exit 26A). Miss Papaminas will lie-in-state at the chapel of The Holy Resurrection at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery, 5917 Windsor Mill Road, Baltimore, MD, Monday 10:30 - 11 a.m, with a funeral service to follow. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 24 West Preston Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
