Obituary

Gordon "Gordy" Moir Caldwell passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by family—exactly ten short months after the passing of his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Marsha.

Gordy was born on July 4, 1956, in Dundee, Scotland, and later grew up in Galion, Ohio. He was the beloved husband of the late Marsha Caldwell and the cherished son of Joan and Gordon Caldwell, who both preceded him in death.

He was a proud father to his two daughters, Linsay Clifford (Brian Clifford) and Kacie Caldwell. Nothing brought him more joy than being "Grumpy Gramps" to his twin grandsons, Bennett and Hudson Clifford. A true "Girl Dad" long before the phrase was popular, Gordy was especially excited to welcome grandsons into the family.

Gordy dedicated his life to two great passions: golf and his family. He played golf at both the high school and collegiate level before graduating from The Ohio State University with a degree in turf management. He went on to spend his entire career as a golf course superintendent—a profession he truly loved. Much of his life was spent on the golf course, either working tirelessly to keep it perfect or enjoying a round himself. For those who knew Gordy, golf and The Ohio State University were simply part of who he was.

In 1990, Gordy moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he continued his career at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club, remaining there until his retirement.

When he wasn't on the golf course, Gordy's life revolved around his family. He could most often be found on the sidelines of a field, court, or pool, proudly cheering on his daughters as they competed in sports. Traveling the country to watch his youngest daughter, Kacie, compete as an Ohio State Buckeye was one of the proudest chapters of his life.

If he wasn't outside or watching sports, he was likely inside with the air conditioning on full blast, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes or the Weather Channel.

Gordy was a man of few words, but when he did speak, it was worth listening. Whether he was delivering a perfectly timed one-liner, sharing the latest weather updates, giving unknown facts about grass, or offering a bit of random sports trivia, he always left those around him smiling.

Gordy will be remembered for his love of golf, his dedication to his family, and the steady, quiet presence he brought to the lives of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life honoring both Gordy and Marsha will be held at a later date.
