Obituary for Godfrey Oseghale Egbiremolen

January 19, 1937 – December 7, 2025

It is with great sadness and deep gratitude to God that we announce the passing of Godfrey Oseghale Egbiremolen, who departed this life peacefully on December 7, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by the prayers and love of his family at his home in Towson, Maryland. Godfrey was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend that will be remembered for his dedication, wisdom, warmth, gentle spirit, commitment and unwavering love for his family.

Godfrey affectionately known by his children as "Super Daddy", and by others as "The Gentleman" was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask for him to be remembered for the way he lived and the transformative effect he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His light will forever shine brightly in our hearts

Godfrey was born on January 19, 1937, to Okosodo and Omoduwa Egbiremolen in Uromi, Edo State, Nigeria. He was the youngest of four siblings, brother Alfred Egbiremolen and two sisters Maria Egbiremolen and Mabel Egbiremolen. Godfrey's humble beginnings laid the foundation for a life filled with humility, giving, gratitude, hard work and dedication to all those around him.

Godfrey was a true trailblazer. After his early education in Uromi, his curiosity and determination took him to the timber city of Sapele in Delta State. He did not stop there – he proceeded to Benin City (Edo State), then to Ibadan (Oyo State). Godfrey did not stop in Ibadan. He proceeded to Italy to further his career through education and business training. This began the international chapter of his life which took him around the world.

Upon returning home, Godfrey married the love of his life, Florence, in Ibadan. Together, they built a vibrant and loving household blessed with nine children – Kingsley, Mercy, Charles, Harrison, Joyce, Juliet, Evelyn, Godfrey Jr. and Victor. He worked for the oil company Agip, where he excelled and relocated with his family across Nigeria, living in Benin City, Ibadan and Lagos.

After leaving Agip, Godfrey pursued entrepreneurship, establishing successful ventures in fashion, building materials and African artworks. His passion and expertise in African art led him to collaborate with the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in the early 1990s—an accomplishment that reflected his deep pride in African culture.

Education was a cornerstone of Godfrey's life. He and his wife, Florence made enormous sacrifices for their children's lifelong learning and educational journey by offering a wealth of support, guidance, encouragement and instilling in their children a love for knowledge, higher learning, diplomacy and mentorship in entrepreneurship.

Godfrey loved reading, he was a great conversationist in sports, current affairs and all topics in general. One of his life passions was travelling which took him to various countries in the world. He was the family's rock and Comforter-in-chief. He was indeed a Super daddy. Despite his ill health in the end, he was resilient, a true fighter, very strong-willed, positive, encouraging in the face of adversity. Godfrey was unassuming with an infectious smile that calmed those around him and put them at ease. He was not only charming with a great sense of humor but compassionate and funny.

Godfrey would always encourage his children to be very strong and not worry about him. One of his favorite hymns was "It is well with my soul". Yes, indeed to the hymn's lyrics, he was extremely grateful to all around him and always thanked God for giving him a long life.

Above all, Godfrey was a man who treasured family. He preached unity amongst his children, urging them always to stay connected and support one another. His famous reminder— "United We Stand, Divided We Fall"—became a lasting family motto, one he lived by every day.

Godfrey was more than grateful to all his children that supported and cared for him, including his daughter-in-law, Katrina, his care providers, David and Ms. Kumbi. He lived life to the fullest and his family is forever grateful to God for all his blessings for a life well lived.

Godfrey is survived by his nine children along with 21 grandchildren, one great grandchild, four daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many family members and friends that will miss him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence, his parents and his siblings.

Rest in peace Godfrey Oseghale Egbiremolen. As his middle name "Oseghale" means in our Edo language "God is great". Yes, indeed Godfrey's faith in God's greatness and divine power is reflected in a life well lived showered with God's grace and blessings. Although his physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forward his legacy of love, faith, gratitude and compassion in all that we do.
