Gerard H.
Wheeler
d. Aug 28, 2026
Family and Friends are mourning the loss of our legendary father, Gerard H. Wheeler (Jerry). Our dad left us peacefully August 28th, after almost 94 years of absolute joy and a passion for living. Growing up with four rambunctious brothers in Baltimore (all preceding him in death) and raised by a hard-working mom (his dad passed away when he was 12), he learned compassion, grit, and how to have fun at a very young age. He met the love of his life, our equally legendary mom Grace Decrescent Wheeler at the age 18 and they were soon married (as the story goes, she liked his shoes and the way he dressed). The two of them were married for 70 years, and didn't let a day go by without making it "fun like a party." While we lost our mom in 2022 at age 90, we were constantly reminded of how much we were loved, and how blessed we are as a family to have each other. Daughters Cindy (Scruggs-Ciresi) and Tracey (Flora) were the joy of their lives, and Tracey's husband Gary has been the son he never had for the last 40 years. There could not possibly have been a better role model for all of us. Fortunately, our children, Phil Scruggs (who sadly passed away earlier this year), Danny Scruggs (and his daughters Gabbie & Emmie), Megan (Flora -Quinn) her husband David Quinn (and sons Mac & Jay), Matt Flora, & Brad Flora, were fortunate enough to have the best grandfather and great-grandfather anyone could ever hope for. Our dad somehow managed to balance being a great executive (with a work ethic that carries on through us all) while ALWAYS being there for us. He was kind, gentle, and patient. He did EVERYTHING with us and for us, including picking up grandkids from school, running them all around, and helping them with schoolwork (some more than others lol). He loved golf, eating out, and was happiest when we were all together surrounded by love and fun times. We have countless memories in Ocean City where all our condos were within a stone's throw of each other. He was President of the University of Baltimore and The Towson Catholic Alumni Association. He cherished the times he had as the COO at Don Richard & Associates with his many friends there who became like family. His entire life was about success and balance with what mattered most! He never met a stranger, and made so many new friends after moving to Oak Crest Senior Living Community after our mom passed. He loved to dance with us, and would sing along with EVERY song we played at our countless (and endless) parties. The last thing he said as his beautiful life began to fade, was "I couldn't have asked for a better life- now I'm ready to get this show on the road"....... He asked us to promise we will always have fun....."Okie Dokie" as he would say....we promise we will.
Family will visit with guests Tuesday, September 1st at Ruck Towson Funeral Home in Towson (Beltway exit 26) from 5-8 pm and will celebrate his life with a Memorial Service there Wednesday, September 2nd at 12 pm. Interment private.
