Obituary

George Howard Wooden Jr., March 19, 1937 - July 17, 2025, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on July 17th in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by the family he cherished more than anything.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, George was the beloved son of Mary and George Wooden Sr. and the youngest of six children—William, Melvin, Earl, Kenneth, and Ethel. Growing up in a tight-knit family, George learned early the value of hard work, loyalty, and love. He believed deeply in the power of family and made it his life's mission to create a home that was loving, supportive, and strong.

As a young boy, George worked as a paperboy for The Baltimore News-Post, where he earned multiple awards for his dedication and reliability. After graduating high school, he began an internship at Sparrows Point, studying to become a tool and die machinist. His talent and work ethic led him to a career with Western Electric in Baltimore, where he spent 27 years before transferring to the Omaha plant. Over the course of 32 years, George rose to the role of supervisor, retiring with pride and the respect of all who worked alongside him. Having left his mark not only through his work, but through the lives he touched along the way.

George was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Patricia ("Pat"), with whom he shared 66 years of enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around their four children—Wayne, Karen, Janice, and Sherrie—each of whom carried his spirit, values, and unconditional love forward. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and a great-grandfather to nine, with two more on the way. His family was his pride, his purpose, and his greatest joy. He never missed a moment to show them how much they meant to him.

George lived a life full of simple pleasures and meaningful moments. He loved fishing, spending time with his brothers, family vacations, and being surrounded by those he loved. In Omaha, he enjoyed tinkering around the dog and horse tracks. George had a special gift for making moments memorable—especially when he'd break into song at family parties, leading the room in his favorite tunes with laughter and joy echoing around him. Known for his quick wit, warm heart, and laugh, George was always the life of the party, the steady presence in every storm, and the rock of his family.  He always found fun in life's little adventures.

Dedicating 47 years to the Masonic Lodge in Baltimore and Omaha, Brother George will be honored by the Masonic Lodge of Maryland.

His legacy is one of love, laughter, strength, humor, and deep devotion. He taught through action—how to work hard, love harder, and find joy in every day. He will be missed more than words can say but remembered always in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing him.

Visitation will be held at the family owned Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk, Inc., 7922 Wise Ave. on Tuesday, July 29th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 30th, at 10 AM. Interment, Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor George's memory in the way he lived—by showing kindness, spreading joy, and cherishing the time we have with those we love. You can also make a donation in his name to the Parkinson's Foundation.
