On October 1, 2026, Genevieve C. Fleury (nee Chambers) passed away peacefully in Towson, Maryland, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Mrs. Fleury was born in Baltimore city on September 13, 1928 to Frank and Genevieve Chambers. She was educated at Johns Hopkins University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelors degree with Honors and began studies at the University of Maryland Law School. She was a staunch advocate for the rights of individuals, especially children, and held a position as Social Worker for Baltimore County Welfare Board from 1950-1959.
She married Lewis Leland Fleury, Attorney at Law, in 1956 and enjoyed many family gatherings at Woodbine Farm in. Kingsville, MD . Genevieve was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Towson and served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of Maryland in 1967. Her greatest passion was in the fight for the rights of unborn children and she served as a Board Member of Maryland Right to Life Organization where she emphasized educational programs and legislative action. Her contributions included Regional Chairwoman for the White House Conference on Families, 1979 and a January-term educator at Loyola College from 1977 to 1981. Genevieve participated in many debates, lectures and radio/ television programs for schools, civic and church organizations.
Genevieve and Lewis travelled extensively, often with family members and their friends, Frank and Rita Ayd. Their stories of adventure, history and exploration prompted many to follow in their footsteps. Her 18 years as a resident of Blakehurst retirement community was a significant factor in her joy and longevity.
She is the beloved mother of the late Lewis L. Fleury, II and she is survived by her daughter Anne F. Kane and her husband Sean, her daughter-in-law Ellen Fleury, and she remains the loving grandmother of Aaron Fleury, Benjamin Fleury, V., Christopher Kane, Jason Kane, and Kevin Kane. She was a proud Dasche' and Aunt to many nieces, nephews and their children. Aunt Jeanne will be greatly missed.
Friends may visit at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Rd. Towson, MD on Wednesday October. 7th from 4:00-8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 200 Ware Ave., Towson MD on Thursday, October 8, at 10 am. The internment will be at St. Ignatius Church Cemetery followed by a gathering at the family farm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Immaculate Conception Church or to Eternal World Television Network (EWTN), 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale Alabama, 35210 or donate online at www.ewtn.com
