Obituary

Esther Corcoran Namian passed away on December 29th at Symphony Manor of Roland Park, at the age of 91. Born in Colton, New York, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Ella Corcoran (née Quinn). Esther was married to the late Douglas L. Namian for 45 years.

A 1954 graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, Esther began her career in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) the same year. Over her distinguished career, she rose to the rank of Captain by 1980. She initially served as a dietitian at USPHS hospitals in Staten Island, Detroit, and New Orleans before joining the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in 1958, where she served for 22 years.

Esther and Doug met in Washington, D.C. and enjoyed an active and joyful life together as a young couple living in Pooks Hill and Georgetown. They later settled in Cleveland Park, where they raised their two children, Michael and Mary Jane. After Doug's passing in 2006, Esther remained in their home until 2012 before moving to Riderwood Senior Living Community, and later to Symphony Manor in Baltimore in 2020.

Esther and Doug shared a passion for travel and were known for their hospitality, hosting family and friends at their home in Cleveland Park and their beach house in South Bethany Beach, Delaware. Their gatherings were cherished, particularly Thanksgiving celebrations, inauguration parties, and D.C. sightseeing trips. Esther loved sharing her city, often taking her grandchildren and visitors on museum and monument tours.

Esther served on the Board of Friends of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, supporting children and families navigating the court system. She was also an active member of the Cleveland Park Historical Society, the Cornell Club of Washington, and the Pi Beta Phi Maryland-DC Suburban Alumnae Club.

Esther is survived by her children, Michael Namian (Tina Fritz Namian) and Mary Jane Namian (John Kevin), as well as her four grandchildren: Lance Kevin, Caroline Kevin, Samuel Namian, and Jackson Namian. She will also be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, their families, and her many treasured friends.

A funeral service will be held Monday January 6th at Holy Trinity Church, Chapel of St. Ignatius, 3513 N Street, NW, Washington DC. at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Esther's honor to Friends of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia at friendsofdcsuperiorcourt.org or by mail to Friends, P.O.
