On Saturday, August 16, 2025, George Elliott Cummings, beloved only son of the late Virginia Sollers-Hoffmaster, died at his home in Towson following a sudden and brief illness. He was 85 years old and was born in the Bolton Hill section of Baltimore October 7, 1939, to George and Virginia (Sollers) Cummings, Elliott was a 1957 graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, received his BS in Business from the University of Baltimore in 1962 and his Master's in Business Administration from the George Washington University in 1973. He was a member of the 136th Comat Support Hospital, Maryland National Guard, Parkville, Maryland, and he retired from the Social Security Administration after 35 years of service.
Elliott was a Sollers and Duke family descendant of Calvert County, Maryland. He was a member of numerous lineage societies including the St. Andrews Society of Baltimore, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Society of St. George, and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars. He was also the current Adjutant and Past Commander of the Col. Harry W. Gilmor Camp #1388, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the past Division Commander of the Maryland Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans. He often hosted his mother's Baltimore Chapter #8 United Daughters of the Confederacy meetings at his home in Towson and was considered an Honorary Chapter Member until it disbanded in 2010. He is survived by his long-time friend, Ms. Deborah Howell of Baltimore, and numerous friends and cousins living across the country.
Friends and family of Elliott are invited to a visitation on Friday, August 29, at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road, Towson, MD 21204, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
The funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Middleham & St. Peter's Episcopal Parish, at the historic Middleham Chapel, located at 10210 H. G. Trueman Road, Lusby, Maryland 20657, beginning at 11:00 AM and concluding with a graveside ceremony. A "no host" luncheon may follow the burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryland Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans.
