Eileen Mckinney
Lutts
d. Jul 21, 2025
Eileen McKinney Lutts passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy defined by devotion to family, compassion for others, and a deep pride in her Irish Catholic roots.
Born on July 24, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, Eileen was raised in a warm and loving home by her parents, Agnes and Thomas McKinney. She graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame in 1956 and went on to earn her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. Shortly after, in 1960, she married the love of her life, William A. (Bill) Lutts. Bill predeceased her in 1987, but their life together was rich with family, love, and laughter.
Eileen was the proud mother of five children: Kay Hillery (Joe), Trish Monagle (D.J.), Kevin Lutts (Laura), Colleen Lutts, and Katie Lutts (Steve Ashley). She was lovingly known as "MomMom" to her nine grandchildren: Chuck, Matt (Toni), Dan (Jessa), Greg (Lilly), Ryan (Anna), Morgan (Michael), Kendall (Andrei), Pat, and Connor, and was blessed with three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She is also survived by her beloved sister Betty Audoersch, and sister-in-law Jackie McKinney. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas McKinney, brother-in-law Herman Audoersch, and in-laws Jack and Ruth Lutts.
Eileen's career was one of service and leadership, culminating in her role as Director of Nursing at Mercy Villa — a position she cherished and excelled in. She was tireless in her volunteer efforts, supporting her community through organizations like Senior Box Office, the PTA, and church ministries. She gave generously of her time, sewing, starching and ironing altar linens, organizing meals for the homeless, and bringing warmth and energy wherever she went. During the COVID pandemic, Eileen helped keep spirits high as the founder of the Towsongate walking club, and then serving as a beloved ambassador to new residents in her senior living community. She was a daily mass attendant for many years and a lifelong devout Catholic.
A true hostess and gifted cook, Eileen's home was always open, especially during the holidays. She adored celebrating holidays. Some treasured memories are, St. Patrick's Day with homemade Irish soda bread, the making of and sharing Christmas cookies of many varieties, and her Easter "golden egg" hunts are memories of family legend. Her kitchen turned out unforgettable favorites all year long — homemade rolls, applesauce and her famous crab cakes to name just a few.
Her birthdays were celebrated with crab feasts, preferably on a porch with family. She never would turn down chocolate ice cream. Her favorite cocktail was a "nice" gin and tonic on the porch, or a glass of wine, "with lots of ice."
She had a zest for life and a love for travel, the beach, fashion, never missed a trip to Talbot's. Her seasonal door decorations won awards. Eileen was rarely seen without the perfect outfit, complemented by a beautiful piece of jewelry and looking radiant. A Sunday afternoon favorite activity of hers was cheering for "her boys," the Baltimore Ravens.
Eileen's family and many lifelong friends will remember her strength, generosity, and radiant spirit. She worked hard, lived her faith, led with love, and never said goodbye without reminding you, "Call me when you get home."
To honor Eileen's legacy of feeding the hungry at home and in the community, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Loaves and Fishes, St. Ignatius Church, 740 N. Calvert St. Baltimore, Maryland 21202 or at https://membership.faithdirect.net/givenow/MD301/53995 . Her light will shine on in the lives of all who loved her
