Westminster, MD - Edward McCauley Kelly, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Born on July 16, 1931, Ned Kelly was raised in Baltimore City and grew up with his three brothers on Melville Avenue, in the shadow of Baltimore's Memorial Stadium. He attended Loyola High School, graduating in 1949. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Loyola University in 1953, he graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry  in 1956, and then he received his Specialty degree in Orthodontics  from the University of Montreal in 1960.  After dental school, Edward was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a Captain in the US Army.  For over 40 years, Dr. Kelly provided orthodontic care at his office on Ingleside Avenue, Baltimore.  He took great pride in the beautiful smiles he helped provide to the many families he cared for.

Edward wed Patricia V. Byrd in November 1956.  They were married at St. William of York Church in the Ten Hills section of Baltimore where they raised ten children.  A talented baseball player in high school and college, Edward loved all sports.  He delighted in his children's many competitions and performances, both on and off the court, perfecting an impressive outside jump shot and ready for any back yard pickup game.

Ned was a lifelong learner and avid doer.  He devoted much time and energy to his beloved Portumna Farm. He enjoyed gardening, horse racing, beekeeping, goldfish ponds, African violets, and bowling.  He was a long-time member of St William of York Church, Baltimore, St Joseph Church, Taneytown, the American Boxwood Society, the American Rhododendron Society, the Azalea Society of America, the Maryland Historical Society, the Serra Club of Baltimore, and the Baltimore Country Club.

He had an unwavering belief in his Catholic faith, his family, Jesuit education, hard work, and achievement.

Ned is survived by his children John (Mary) Kelly, Susan (Robert) Walsh, Ellen (Peter) Cordrey, Mary Patricia (Mark) Wickstrom, Edward (Donna) Kelly, Stephen Kelly, Timothy (Stefanie) Kelly, Janet (Barkley) Sause, Anne Marie (Ian) Carr, twenty-three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother, William Kelly of Westminster.  He was predeceased by his treasured bride of 64 years, Patricia, his daughter, Kathleen, and his brothers Thomas and John.

This summer as you plant and tend your garden say a prayer and remember Ned Kelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick Street, Taneytown, Maryland 21787 on Saturday, June 6, at 11am.  Prior to mass, the family will receive friends at the church at 10:00am.
