Dorothy Anne
Lardieri
Feb 25, 1927 — Nov 5, 2025
Dorothy A. Lardieri
February 25, 1927- November 5, 2025
Dorothy A. (Dotty) Lardieri, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 5, 2025 surrounded by loving family members. She was 98 years old. A woman of unwavering Catholic faith, a sharp mind, and boundless caring and compassion, her life was a hallmark of humble service and love in action.
Born in Dunmore, PA on February 25, 1927, she was a "coalminer's daughter" of Joseph Mocharski and Anna Liptai Mocharski. The family moved to northern New Jersey when Dorothy was still a child. From a very young age, Dorothy's caring nature was evident. Starting at just 10 years old, while both of her parents worked, she lovingly looked after her younger siblings Jack and Joanie, nurturing and guiding them with the same tenderness that would later define her life as a mother and grandmother. She managed to also cook and clean for her family while maintaining excellent grades in school, and attained the status of valedictorian in her senior year of high school. Upon graduation from high school, she worked as an office assistant in a legal practice.
She met her future husband, Ernest P. Lardieri, at a barn dance, and they were married on September 16, 1950. Five children followed: two sons and three daughters. Ernie and Dotty moved their family to Maryland in 1969 because of Ernie's job transfer with the Bendix Corporation. They settled in Timonium, where they greatly enjoyed their community and continued to raise their five children. Dotty's beloved husband Ernie pre-deceased her in December of 2001.
As the years went by, Dotty not only cared for her husband and children, but also her father-in-law and her brother-in-law. Her own mother and grandmother came to live with Dotty and Ernie in their later years, and she ensured that all of these loved ones had constant comfort and dignity as they aged.
Dorothy's love of learning illuminated every stage of her life. She inspired her children to value education, and she delighted in seeing their accomplishments. A voracious reader, she found joy in the written word, and could often be seen enjoying a cup of tea along with a great novel. She enjoyed playing challenging games with family and friends, and Scrabble, Rummikub, and Continental were among her favorites, as she cherished the laughter and friendly competition that these gatherings brought. She was equally passionate about music, especially musicals, the opera, and hymns, and these songs filled her home—and her heart—with such great joy.
Dorothy's Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted parishioner, she lived her faith constantly through prayer, daily mass and communion, service to others, and her compassion for those in need. She sang in the church choir for many years and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. Her faith guided her with steadfast grace, bringing her strength, comfort, and peace throughout her life's journey.
A gifted gardener, Dorothy's green thumb transformed every patch of soil into something beautiful and/or nourishing. Her vegetable garden was a place of abundance—rows of tomatoes, lettuce, kohlrabi, and cucumbers thrived under her careful tending. She shared her harvest generously with family and friends. She also transformed many of those tomatoes into her legendary Italian dinners, even though she herself was not of Italian descent. An outstanding cook, her tomato sauce, meatballs, rice and meatballs, brasciole, and her homemade ravioli all drew family members to her home like a magnet, in addition to her more Polish/Slovakian specialties of chicken soup and stuffed cabbage rolls. They all came for the food, and stayed for the warmth in the loving home she had created. One son-in-law swore she could fashion a great meal out of nothing, much like a Loaves and Fishes miracle!
Dorothy raised a family of five along with her late husband Ernest P. Lardieri, with whom she shared a lifetime of love. Dorothy leaves behind her children E. Gregory Lardieri (Bonnie), Joyce Caldwell (Gary), Barbara Penhallegon (Richard), Lisa Macurak (Edward), and Mark Lardieri (Christi).
She was also the proud and loving grandmother of Annie Kress (Jay), Michael Lardieri (Alli), Zach Caldwell (Sally), Matthew Lardieri, Emily Harrison, Lindsay Harrison, Grant Lardieri (Kari), and Isabella Wesolowski (David). Her legacy of love continues through her cherished great-grandchildren: Avelyn, Esme, Everett, Emory, Joanna, Gianna, Lucas, Winnie, Mila, and Finley.
She will be remembered for her incredibly loving care, her deep faith, and her devotion to her family. In every aspect of her life—from the garden she tended, to the music she sang, to the food she made, to the lives she nurtured—Dorothy was the humblest of experts at it all. Her name, which means "gift of God," was perfectly chosen to predict her beautiful life.
