Donald Reese "Bud" Hoskins, 73, of Dundalk, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, following a long, courageous battle with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. Bud was born on January 6, 1953 and raised in Dundalk Maryland. He was a 1971 graduate of Patapsco High School. He then dedicated his professional life to public service, embarking on a remarkable 45-year career with the State of Maryland. He began his journey as a Maryland Toll Facilities Police Officer before transitioning to the Motor Vehicle Administration's Investigation and Security Services. Through hard work, dedication, and integrity, Bud steadily climbed the career ladder, ultimately retiring in 2019 as Chief Investigator. Bud also worked part-time for a private security company and served his community as a State of Maryland Qualified Handgun Instructor.
Beyond his distinguished career, Bud was a man of diverse talents and simple pleasures. He was an incredibly talented auto mechanic who could fix just about anything. He was a lover of nature who took great pride in tending to his vegetable garden. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor, loved relaxing with his beloved cats, and was a passionate sports and entertainment fan—rarely missing a football or baseball game, a UFC fight, or a good mystery. Bud loved the energy of live music and going to concerts, looked forward to a good buffet, and truly appreciated the timeless perfection of a great cheeseburger paired with a classic Coke. He was also a proud and dedicated 32-degree Scottish Rite Freemason with the Highland Lodge #184 in Baltimore.
Bud was predeceased by his beloved wife, Brenda J. Hoskins, as well as his father, Lee M. Hoskins, and his mother, Doris A. Hoskins. His legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his two sons, Douglas M. Hoskins Sr., and Gregory S. Hoskins and his wife Katherine M. Hoskins; his cherished grandchildren, Douglas M. Hoskins Jr., Emily F. Hoskins, and Evan S. Hoskins; and his brother, James L. Hoskins.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bud’s life during the visitation hours on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk, Inc., located at 7922 Wise Ave, Dundalk, MD 21222. A final gathering will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed immediately by the interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery, 7225 Eastern Ave, Baltimore, MD 21224.
