Donald W.
Bertrand
d. Jun 18, 2026
Donald Wayne Bertrand (1948-2026)
Donald "Don" Bertrand passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, in Towson, Maryland. After a long period of declining health and increasing loss of independence, he moved to an assisted living community, where he found comfort in simple pleasures. He especially enjoyed watching baseball—cheering on his beloved Orioles—or settling in with an old Western like Gunsmoke with Matt Dillon.
Don is survived by his son, Jonathan Bertrand, his daughter-in-law, Amanda, and his cherished grandchildren, Jace and Aila. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Fountain, along with her children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ellen Bertrand.
He also leaves behind two lifelong friends, David Fisher and John Offerman. Friends since their school days, they shared a lifetime of memories centered around music, fishing, Three Stooges films, and meals together in Havre de Grace. Whether reminiscing about "fun times" at Good Humor Ice Cream or celebrating the catch of a prized bass, their time together brought Don many happy memories and long lasting joy.
Don dedicated his career to education as a highly respected mathematics teacher in Baltimore County. Even after retiring, his passion for helping young people led him back to the classroom as a volunteer at a local elementary school. Kind, patient, and compassionate, with a sharp wit and great sense of humor, Don had a gift for making difficult concepts understandable for students who needed a little extra help. His encouragement and dedication left a lasting impression on countless young lives.
Don will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his devotion to teaching, and the many lives he touched through his generosity, patience, and warmth. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
