On May 28, 2026, Dawn Helen Wittstadt Ewell passed away peacefully in Towson, Maryland. She was the beloved daughter of the late Glenn Leroy Wittstadt, Sr. and Gertrude Louisa (nee Tesar); devoted mother of M. Webster Ewell, Jr. and Fontaine Michele Ewell; loving grandmother of Cameron Ewell, Benjamin Ewell, and Stoddert Ewell; dear sister of the late Glenn Leroy Wittstadt, Jr.

She led her life in an independent and genuine way, being a trail blazer not confined by social convention. She strongly valued education and critical thinking, working her entire professional life as a teacher who derived satisfaction from opening the world of literacy to the underprivileged. Her most important interpersonal connections and commitments were to her children and her grandchildren, whose needs were her overarching priority.

The visitation will be held at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Rd., Towson, Maryland on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 1:00-5:00pm. The family will have a service beginning at 4:00pm when family members will speak; anyone else wanting to speak is welcome to do so at that time. The interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice in her name.
