On March 10, 2010 David Shaefer died suddenly. He survived by his loving wife of many years, Jodi (S. Jane McDermott) Shaefer and their children, Sarah Shaefer of New York City and Lucas Shaefer of Baltimore. David was born February 15, 1948 the son of Grace Cowan Shaefer and the late Henry Shaefer. Dave and his siblings, Henry and Barbara, grew up around the world. Jodi and Dave met at local hospital while he was doing his alternate service as a Conscientious Objector to the Vietnam War.
He graduated from Widener University and University of Maryland School of Dentistry, majoring in microbiology. Before retirement in 2006, he taught middle school science in Baltimore City and County schools. He had a life long enjoyment of playing the guitar and an unfailing curiosity about the world around him.

The Visitation will be Friday, March 12 from 6-8 PM and the funeral service will be Saturday, March 13 at 11 AM, both at the Family Owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home,Inc. 1050 York Rd., (beltway exit 26) In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the ACLU of Maryland; 3600 Clipper Mill Rd.; Suite 350; Baltimore, MD 21211.
