Cristina Carmen
Parra
d. Aug 17, 2025
On August 17, 2025, Cristina Carmen Parra (née Montaño) passed away peacefully. Beloved wife of the late Celiar E. Parra, MD; devoted mother of Jorge A. Parra, Michael A. Parra (Ann), and Doramarie C. Parra; loving grandmother of Marissa B. Parra, Naira G. Parra Presley, and Benicio J. Parra Presley; dear sister of Beatrice Rodriguez Montaño and the late Juan Carlos Montaño and the late Dora Elena Bustos Montaño.
Cristy was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia to her loving parents Carlos "Pipa" Antonio Montaño Valenzuela and Dora "Mima" Susana Hurtado de Montaño (née Cespedes), and in 1959 migrated to the United States with her three-month-old son Jorge, following her husband, Celiar, who was interning as a medical doctor in Chicago.
After a nomadic existence, living in Cleveland (with deaf neighbors where she learned sign language before mastering her English), and Royal Oak Michigan (where she gave birth to her second son Mike), and Pasadena California, she and her family finally settled in Baltimore, Maryland where her daughter Doramarie was born. There she remained and raised her three children.
Cristy spoke four languages (English, Spanish, German, and sign language) and was a lover of tennis, golf, opera, classical music, all animals (especially hummingbirds), and cookies.
She volunteered her time with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Women's Auxiliary, the Club de Amistad which she founded (a friendship club for Latinos in the Baltimore area), and having acquired extensive knowledge of hummingbirds, she gave lectures on hummingbird migration through her Garden Club.
As busy as she was she never missed an opportunity to volunteer or chaperone at Notre Dame Preparatory School for her daughter, or attend a football game to cheer on the marching band for her sons at Calvert Hall High School.
A friend to many, missed by all.
